There were three last year, but then again 100 losses is not unusual

153 times a team has lost 100 games, 56% of them came before the 1969 expansion year, 21% in the last 21 years, that's 33 since 2001 and 36% of them were by the Pirates, Tigers or Royals

In the total number, 20% of those 100 loss seasons come from the A's and the Phillies, two teams from the same city in most cases.

That is why the city is so cynical about fandom is my guess

I hate to say it because it's not his fault but I think David Bell's going to be fired sooner rather than later. Even bad teams who lose six in a row at home are liable to get their manager fired.

It'll be a mercy killing at this point.

I think he is the manager because he is willing to go along with the rebuild. My guess is that he lasts at least another year.

When you see Reynolds, Senzel, Almora and Okey in the lineup mid June against the Dodgers you're already dead a little bit

I think he's the manager because he's got a contract and why would they fire the guy and have to pay for someone else?

The logic is sound, but I think our ownership is going to let Bell play out his contract. They are so cheap, they won't want to have to pay Bell while he's not working for them , while paying his replacement.

It seemed like there was much more fan anger directed at Price and some other managers (at least on the internet).. Not a lot of anger towards Bell, other than that silly gimmick double steal play he did in the playoffs. Maybe I am misreading it though.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

The problem with Price was that the team was in a supposed rebuild and he was doing a miserable at bringing along young players, especially pitchers. Add in that he visibly seemed to crack under the stress of the job (and he's out of baseball now) and he really needed to go.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Yep, Price hung around way too long. I don't want to say he was useless, because I don't know everything.. but he seemed below average.
I think most of us would much rather have Bell than Price.
That's the true danger of firing Bell.. The Reds will give the job to a guy willing to work cheap, who might be far worse.
Bell is overall a competent manager, seems to run the team well. Hard to criticize his bullpen handling when almost no one is reliable.
Hard to criticize his lineups, given the cast he's been handed.
Obviously, he's not given enough talent to do anything.

Managers are cheap (relatively speaking.) He's probably making maybe a little over the players' minimum salary which, IIRC, a little over $700K. I don't believe it's the right move but if they did do it, it would confirm that they are incompetent. It does seem that most of the anger over the team's record is directed at ownership and the front office and not Bell. From what I gather, the biggest criticism fans have of him is that he doesn't speak loudly enough. I think most people realize that when he goes to the bullpen, he's playing Russian Roulette with 5 (sometimes 6) bullets. But I've watched MLB for 50 years and I know someone usually pays the price for a record this bad. Easiest one to fire is Bell, then Krall. Firing Bell may satisfy some fans but if the team doesn't do a 180; they are going back to be angry at Krall and the Castellinis. Firing Bell would be a short term solution to a long term problem.
