With Hinds injury, so you think Rogers gets another shot in Dayton?

Reds prospect Leonardo Balcazar was named the rookie-level Arizona League player of the week. The 18-year-old shortstop went 7-for-15 at the plate with a double, a triple, two homers and five RBI.

MLB Pipeline just updated their top 100 prospects list, and a few Reds made a big jump

    -Nick Lodolo is No. 29

-Elly De La Cruz rises all the way to No. 51

-Matt McLain makes a significant jump to No. 61

    -Brandon Williamson is No. 77

They went on to say they only really changed the top 15. Completely new list in August. I assume he will be top 20 at that point.

Williamson shouldn’t really be top 100
What would you say.....ya do here?

At this point last year, Elly De La Cruz was an unknown prospect playing in the Arizona Complex League. Today, he just learned he and
and LHP Andrew Abbott are heading to the Futures Game.

He’s the Reds top prospect and one of the most exciting hitters in the minors.

    Re: 6/23 Odds and Ends

De La Cruz is in the Midwest League top 10 in BA, SLG, OPS, HR, 3B, SB, and K.

If you get rid of all the guys who've already been moved up to AA, he ranks 5th in BA, 1st in HR, 1st in slugging percentage, 2nd in OPS, 2nd in 3B, 4th in RBI, 3rd in SB, and 2nd in Ks. (With a hot streak, he has a real chance at the A+ Triple Crown.) His 7.6 BB% is a career high (and two percentage points better than what he offered last season).

In all of Advanced A baseball (minimum 200 PAs), De La Cruz ranks:
    Age: 11th youngest
    BA: 11th
    SLG: 1st
    OPS: 2nd
    wRC+: 4th
    RAA: 2nd
    wOBA: 5th
    Spd: 9th
    ISO: 2nd
    HR: 3rd
    RBI: 9th
    3B: 4th
    SB: 9th

Apparently, Elly did not like his MLB prospect ranking.

Not to detract from De La Cruz’s huge performance. But, Stuart Fairchild is OPSing .942 in AAA for the season. Can play all 3 outfield spots and shown OBP ability throughout his minor league career. IMO, dude needs a real chance to stick in the MLB post the impending sell off.

Just watched the video of De La Cruz’s homers. Serious oppo power from both sides of the plate. Impressive.

He almost legit killed a guy on the third homer, the ball hit a spectator on the head and knocked him out.

I’ll have to watch that again. Hopefully the dude is ok.

Edit: just watched again. Wow. It was like that guy was paying zero attention to the game. It seemed like he didn’t even look up and had no clue it was coming. I do hope he’s ok. He looked out cold.

    Re: 6/23 Odds and Ends

That guy left the game a few minutes later. It looked like medics and ushers were there, and hopefully they took him to the hospital as a precaution. Scary sight and made me think of the young girl who died a day later after getting struck by a puck at a Jackets game years ago. That death led to larger netting behind the goals. Last night was the first time I've sat behind the extended nets at a Dragons game, and man, I'm so thankful they've done that. I don't have to sit on-edge the entire game, trying to protect my wife and kids from screamers right over the dugout.

Sitting right by the home dugout, you get a better understanding of how dang tall Elly really is. They list him at 6'5", and Torres at 6'0". When the two stand next to one another, there's more than 5 inches in difference. I'm guessing Elly is closer to 6'5.5" and Torres is under 6'0". Every out Elly had was hit hard. First AB, drove one to the wall in dead center. Final AB, sharp grounder to SS, almost beat the throw. On his first RH home run, he took the first pitch, offspeed about 81 MPH. He was pissed that he took it...so then punished the next pitch over the wall. The kid just has fun out there. He's going to be a huge crowd favorite when he reaches Cincinnati, whether that's at SS, 3B, or I'm guessing CF.
