Seth Etherton, the Reds' pitching coach at Triple-A Louisville, left the organization to become the pitching coach at USC, his alma mater.

Elmer Dessens will be the pitching coach at Louisville for at least the immediate future.

Brian Rey is off the Restricted List, and back in action. Rey was suspended for 80 games for a drug infraction.

Over his last 3 starts, Christian Roa has worked 14 consecutive scoreless innings, allowing just 7 hits. He has walked 6 batters while setting 21 down on strikes.

Jose Barrero has gone 9 for 27 to raise his average from .191 to .219. Has struck out one time or fewer in 6 of his last 7 contests.

    Colin Moran - OPS - .840.

    Aristides Aquino - OPS - 1.108.

    TJ Friedl - OPS - .819.

Matt McLain has doubled 4 times over the past 2 games. .839 OPS.

    Alex McGarry - .937 OPS.

Chase Petty was roughed up in his first start for Dayton. Still, a just barely 19,in High A is a good sign.

Personally, assuming their success continues over the next 10 days, I'd strongly consider bumping Barrero to the big club and McLain to Louisville.

Let's see what both of them have over the last month of the season in their new surroundings.

De La Cruz gets to man SS in Chattanooga, with Marte in Dayton and Arroyo in Daytona. Then you can decide where they all start next year. (Barrero will obviously be the Opening Day SS in Cincy - or at least should be.)

Jose Barrero smacked his 9th home run on the season.

Zoot allures! Zeuch went 7 innings at Louisville, giving up one earned run and striking out 12.

Noelvi Marte went hitless in 4 trips at Dayton. He struck out once. Bust.

    Jose Acuna made his first start as a Tortuga: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. Call him up.

With all the moves on the big club, I’d bump him up and let him play SS everyday while Farmer and Solano rotate between 3B and LF until Spencer Steer is ready.

Marte also had a fielding error tonight. Barrero saw his miscue and raised him a couple (two throwing and a fielding).

Levi Stoudt is dealing in his first start for the Lookouts. So far: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. Just 70 pitches.

Matt McLain slammed his 13th home run on the season.

Noelvi Marte has gone deep twice for the Dragons.

Christian Roa with a funky line which included 6 BB and 0 K.

    Re: 6/23 Odds and Ends

I'm starting to keep an eye on Daytona's Javi Rivera, 20th rounder last year out of Florida Atlantic. Gave up a run on two hits in 5 IP tonight with 6 strikeouts. On the year, he's pitched 73.2 IP with a 2.81 ERA, a 0.95 OBA, 88 K and only 18 BB.

He's 22 so I'd say he's ready for a handful of starts in Dayton the rest of the year.

Javi Rivera is also fairly new to pitching. He played the infield in high school, and did not really take the mound until in junior college.

Interesting, didn't realize that. Maybe they'll bring him along a little slower than others then. Also hopefully less wear and tear on that arm.

It's time for Matt McLain to go to Louisville. He turns 23 on Saturday and he is OPSing .835. Let's see what he can do in AAA, as Elly should be playing SS everyday in Chattanooga.

Marte should be heading to Chattanooga soon as well.

And Arroyo should be playing somewhere at least Daytona. Anyone know why he was sent to Arizona? Injury?
