After not walking a batter in his last start, Boyle couldn't find the plate tonight. Somehow gave up seven earned runs on only one hit in 2.1 innings.

It's the third inning and the Dragons haven't made an error and have only allowed one hit and are down 9-0.

Off day for Joe Boyle today. He was reached for 2 hits over 5 innings. He did strike out 10, while walking 4.

Bryce Bonnin was quite good before his injury, little early too pull the plug on him.

Roa hasn't been terrible. Striking out a lot of batters - 51 in 37 innings

Jackson Miller is hurt - way too early to pull the plug on a HS player, especially a catcher.

Wainright - yeah, who would have known he would rape a woman

Hendrick - def looks like a bust, he shows flashes of light tower power, but I don't think he will ever figure it out.

With that said, it was 2020, the COVID year, the MLB draft is always a crapshoot, but especially that year. It was like picking players in the dark, especially with where the reds picked (outside of the top 10), the Reds only made 6 draft picks that draft, if they hit on 1 (mlb regular) - Boyle - that is a home run of a draft.
What would you say.....ya do here?

It's early on, and Joe Boyle is up to his old tricks. He walked three and hit a batter in the first to bring home a run. He has also struck out 5 over the span of two hitless innings. Enjoy the rollercoaster ride.

Our very own Nuke LaLoosh. Maybe he needs to work on breathing through his eyelids.

Re: Joe Boyle deserves his own thread after tonight.

Thought I'd bump this since Boyle made his AA debut last night and it was the most Joe Boyle debut I could imagine: 4.2 IP, 4 BB, 6 K, 1 ER, 98 pitches. I hadn't watched him live prior to last night. I though I'd offer a few observations from a filthy casual. Seeing him live gives some context to his baffling stats. When his fastball and breaking ball are on they are unhittable (especially his breaking ball).
Everything else is also unhittable because it's a zip code away from the strike zone. If he ever figures out how to make his good stuff consistent the sky is the limit. Another random observation is how twitchy he is on the mound. He does this thing where he rotates the ball in his hand, pre-pitch, for what seems like an excessive amount of time. He was penalized two BB for taking too much time on the mound last night while doing this. I wonder if this might make him susceptible to tipping his pitches down the road. He's a fun prospect to watch but certainly has his flaws.
How do we know he's not Mel Torme?

I'll say Boyle ends up as a high leverage RP, and if he can stick as a SP then great.
