For example, I put in Mahle for Adell/Bachman/Guzman to that trade generator thing and it still said the Reds were overpaying.

Would Boston go for Castillo. Study. And the Moose for Jarren Duran. Jeter Downs. Casas and a starter that’s ready for the majors by at worst next year.

Reds have to pay salary for rest of year on Moose. Or will paying all of the remaining contract bring back a better pitching prospect.

That’s why if you are going/wanting to trade him don’t dick around until the trade deadline to get it done.
Obviously this point stood for Mahle as well.

    Jeez.

    @MartinJGallegos

Frankie Montas’ MRI showed inflammation in his shoulder but no structural damage. Received a cortisone shot, per A’s trainer Nick Paparesta. He will not make his next start in the rotation but no decision on an IL stint yet. He’s day to day.

I’d think Adell for Mahle straight up would do it.

I think that should have happened 2 months ago.

Last I saw Angels were possibly selling SP so I unless they think Mahle helps them enough next year they may not be a target this deadline.

Jon Heyman on the trade market:

The Reds, a winter fire-seller, could have a productive deadline even with Mahle on the IL and no takers for overpaid vets Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas. Top-of-the-line starter Luis Castillo plus late-blooming infielder Brandon Drury look like headliners in this environment, and if he can stick to baseball, Tommy Pham could help a contender, as might outfield mate Tyler Naquin.

The Twins, Padres and Mets are among many teams in on Castillo, and it’s no surprise the Reds seek a “top” prospect, such as Anthony Volpe or Oswald Peraza from the Yankees — who check on everyone but actually have a more pressing need, anyway (an outfielder of course).

Edit : i thought this was Sherman as it was linked through a Sherman tweet.

I imagine the Mets are waiting to see how deGrom's rehab goes before making a big move for SP. The Reds are in an unbelievably good spot with this Castillo trade. You could end up with every serious World Series contender in on a potential deal. The Reds should be looking to get back the best player possible in this trade. I would be looking at this as the chance to land a franchise caliber player.

You and the Reds' FO probably have different thought processes.

After reading the Sherman post, I looked at the Yankees Top 30. Can't say anyone got me terribly interested as a return for Castillo except for #5 Ken Waldichuk (better pitcher's name than Wildlychuck would be). Position players all seem to have very high k rates at a quick glance.

Yankees likely have bigger needs than a top SP anyway as Sherman notes.

Franchise player, like a Tatis, Jr or a Guerrerro, Jr? Or like Alvarez the Mets catcher who is near top of prospect chart?

Good luck, my friend, but that is very unlikely.

There are other teams I would rather deal with, I agree with that, but Oswald Peraza is a name I would keep an eye on as a real possibility. The Reds have several SS prospects, but none that are exactly knocking on the door to be called up right now. Peraza seems to have a high floor as a plus glove SS with a decent hit tool. He struggled heavily to start the year at AAA, but has been absolutely killing it the last few weeks. He could be someone the Reds view as an immediate plug and play for the SS position with upside as a .780-.820 type bat at GABP + above-average defense.

    No more Perazas.

If the Yankees need OF, wonder if a Pham or Naquin for Andujar deal could be had.
