    2023 Reds Payroll

Lots of discussion on what the Reds are going to do next year, since this year is a write off. I’m curious what everyone thinks the payroll will be next year.

    Poll incoming.

might reach 100 million but it won't be much higher than that I imagine

Will be? Less than $100M. Excuses will abound.

Should be? Somewhere north of $175M at the least.

Lower, but they will claim it's higher due to inflation and funny magic beans.

I think I posted something earlier to the effect that this year they won't be spending money and they could possibly next year. However, now I foresee more of the same until about 2025.

Reds co-owners will be happy with their financial return.

Reds fans (however many there are left) will sit at home thinking about where else to spend their entertainment dollars.

Fans staying home actually works in the owners favor because it “justifies” cutting payroll even further, and with revenue sharing it will net them more profit.

    Understood.

I’ll make the obligatory pilgrimage to GABP a couple/few times this summer. But without playoff contention being at play, my motivation to pay good money to watch a 55-60 win team is very low. I paid for season tickets in 1982 and I won’t make that same mistake again.

    Re: 2023 Reds Payroll

Over the past decade the Reds ownership has been extremely erratic when it comes to the team’s payroll, raising it, slashing it, upping it a little, cutting it a little, each time with no logical explanation behind the move.

It’s silly to try to predict where they will go next season with payroll, they could slash it down to Pirates level, or go back up to 2020 level, or even beyond it, or anywhere in between. None of it would be because of any logical or financial reasoning, it just would be based on where they feel comfortable that year.

In other words, none of us have any clue on what the payroll may be next season.
