    John Franco

I said I would not post since former Stanford Cardinal, Alex Blandino left the team but 10 years of attending Reds’ games, the interest in the Reds still burns.

I was looking at Scott Aldred’s career, this shining nugget appeared:

“he did not allow a hit in his first 11 appearances, tying a record held by John Franco of the 1987 Cincinnati Reds;”

I’m glad you posted this. I always thought Franco’s “no-hitter” deserved more attention.

Stanford Cardinal Baseball has led you into the curse that is the Cincinnati Reds.

Not sure if I am more sorry that you are stuck following this train wreck in 2022 or impressed at the impact Alex Blandino can have on ones life.

He's not? I thought that was a given.

Franco is 62 but rested and likely would improve the 22 pen.

I didn't like it at the time either. But it worked out. Myers was a big reason for the 90 title. And Franco got to go home to NY.

Absolutely should be. I think Reds HOF should've had him in during the 2014 induction but decided to make it a Cincinnati native HOF class. That's the only explanation for Oester getting and Franco not.

Also, it's like the Reds HOF took it personally that Franco wanted to play near his home town. I guess if you have a team HOF career with another club first before coming to the Reds, you're good(Seaver, Parker, KGJ). If you do it after leaving the Reds, you're not(Franco).

He only was with the Reds what 6 years?, then spent like a dozen or so with the Mets. Did he spend enough time as a Red to be in Reds HOF?

    Yep. Three-season minimum.

The Rafeal Landestoy trade may have been one of the best ever for the Reds.

John Franco was the Danny Graves of the 80s, but better.

Super nice guy, lived in my brother’s building in Manhattan. Was always super friendly.

John Franco is the kind of player the Dodgers never would have traded back when they were still in Brooklyn. Short, left-handed Italian kid, born and raised in Gravesend -- he would have been a Bum for life.
