Has Votto been benched like last season or is he banged up? Two straight games not starting. Something is up.

I think the main reason is that the Mets are starting a LHP

The old Votto is gone. There will be flashes of what once was, but those will be further and further apart.

Maybe. But a lot of folks said the exact same thing last year. Then he exploded with a historical run.

Joey Votto is sitting today because of a little tightness in his back, David Bell said.

I thought there might be something going on cause he sat last night as well. Very rare for him to miss 2 straight games unless he is injured.
This answers why he didn't pinch hit last night as well.

Votto has back tightness, Bell said. Said it’s something he’s had before and they’re being safe

I tend to think you are probably right. I think we may still see some good play for stretches but probably not what we've been used to for all these many years. Age catches up to everyone. Joey's beeen terrific for a long time. He gets a pass from me if he bats .130 the rest of his career. He's given the organization a lot.

On Tyler Mahle, David Bell expects him to be back to make one of the first few starts after the break. Mahle won’t throw for 5-to-7 days.

As the song says, he’s not as good as he once was, but he’s as good once as he ever was.
