And probably 2024 also. To compete in 2024, so many things have to go right that it makes it improbable. For example, every rookie that debuts in 2023 has to not have a sophomore slump in 2024.

And then in 2025, its on to the rebuild as Stevenson and India will be too expensive and the starting pitchers, if effective, will be close to maxing out Reds resources. So it goes...
    Where we gonna go?

That’s my worry. The FO thinks they e bought some time to organically grow the club. But the arbitration clock is now ticking on their 3 prized starters and India/Stephenson. This is when you mash the accelerator and go for the pennant as fast as you can. I hope they realize this.

Stephenson and India being too expensive in 2025 would be a good problem for the Reds to have because that would mean their 2023/24 seasons went much better than 2022.

Yes, barring a huge infusion of cash, the Reds aren't going to be competitive in 2024. Maybe they will get 75-78 wins in 2025 if everything goes right.
I understand why some people here want to be optimistic.. but if you look at it realistically.. the Reds do not have enough assets, even if every prospect makes it. They don't have the smart front office to pick up someone else's Suarez or smartly sign free agents.. I admire anyone that still has hope, I just don't see a reason for hope. This is literally one of the worst teams in Reds history that we just witnessed. Arguably the most talent-starved Reds team I've seen in my lifetime.

[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

The problems with growing any sports team organically include injuries, slow development or misses, arbitration (baseball) and free agency. It’s hard to get a full compliment of successfully developed guys together for any length of time. Especially if you have payroll limitations or salary caps.

At minimum, you have to be active traders to get good guys together for awhile. Cleveland, TB, have done this. We’ll see how the Reds go, but draft and hold (or trade for minor league prospects and hold) isn’t very likely to work. Maybe Reds know this and plan to change things up at some point.
