98 is my number and this year we are adjusting for inflation so that is about 103 or 104 in the L column.

Like others have said. Losing 100 isn't that big of a deal.
But especially with the lottery style draft picks. I'd prefer they didn't. 100 sticks out more than 99.
I think it is going to be really close. Depends who is left on the roster and to a lesser degree who is or isn't on some of the opponents rosters.

19 games against the Cubs and Pirates means no 100 loss season - they even have a chance of finishing 3rd even without the players that have left and/or are leaving. Cubs will have departures.
    Where we gonna go?

I don't care a d--- whether they lose 100 games or 98 or 105. The moves are to trade Pham, Drury, Farmer, and anybody else somebody will give you commensurate value for. And that starts with Mahle. His value will never be higher than it is now. If you wait till the offseason, other GM's will know that you have no choice except to move him and they will take advantage of that. The Castillo move suggests they've finally committed to a full rebuild, which is what they need to do--and in my view, have never really done--before they get the baseline of talent that will allow them to move further toward a kind of Brewers, Guardians, Cardinals model. It's going to take some years but finally there's some hope, IMO. But I'll be even more hopeful if Krall pulls off 3 or 4 more deals in the next couple of days. Pham, Drury, Farmer have value now because of where other clubs are in the race, but they are pretty easily replaceable pieces--as even some players that RZ thinks were great losses have proven to be this year--Winker, Geno, Castellanos, Miley, Barnhart.

They probably do, but like others have said, does it matter? Nope...

Merged two futility threads together. One of these is more than enough.

It remains to be seen if they lose 100 (or more) games, but for now, we should begin every post with "The not-in-last-place Cincinnati Reds"

Has any division ever had 2 100 game losers? If not, how about two in the same league?

Their goal shouldn’t be to not lose 100 games, but to win 70 games. That is just 2 games better than that pace. I think it’s doable.
During all this trade deadline news, the Reds have quietly won 4 games in a row, 14 out of their last 21 games.

So right now, the Reds just need to go 28-31, a .475 winning percentage, in order to get to 70 wins. This is getting more and more likely.

If I'm correct, the Reds have a record of 39-44 since May 1. That's rather astounding for the awful bullpen. I'm shocked.

The Nats lost 100 games in 2008 and won the World Series in 2019. Turnarounds like that can happen. Although, I don't think the Reds have a decade of grace to work with.

We need to go on a 20 game winning streak.

    So today:
42-62 .404 winning percentage. (improved from last check of .384 )

    CORRECTION:
    58 games left to play.
If the Reds go 20-38 in the rest of their games (.344 winning percentage), they hit 100 losses.

Currently, the following teams have worse W-L than the Reds:
Oakland, Nats, Cubs, Rockies, Detroit, KC
If the season ended today, we'd have a 5.5% chance of getting the #1 pick.

I found a good summary of the MLB draft lottery here. I'm going to add a screen shot of the chart here.

[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob
