I was hoping they'd win today and end on something of a positive note. To avoid what looked inevitable.

So be it.. let this "newest" rebuild begin

They didn’t just lose #100 today. They made a spectacle of it. They did everything to ensure every fan’s final memory of this season was shrouded in pure, bitter disgust.
“The crows seem to be calling my name,” thought Caw.

What accountability do you want, because the owner isn't going to fire himself.

reds pulled off a special kind of stupid. lost 100 games ... and still might not even get a top-5 pick. (hell, might not even get a top-8 pick, although that's unlikely.) but lose 100 games and maybe get the 7th pick (which is the most likely odds when you do the math)? yikes.

They've done the math, 83, and have chosen to be cheap. That you continue to deny it is remarkable. Despite literally all the math that's been shown, you somehow cling to the hope that they're just... what? Stupid?

    Please.

    Don't be pedantic, 75.

They've pledged in the past that they only look to "break even". We know that's hogwash. We know they make millions hand over fist due to revenue sharing. Other teams give them cash so that they don't have to be good to make hundreds of millions. (And other teams can then count on those easy wins.)
No. I believe they want to win. I think incompetence and having one foot in and one foot out killed the last rebuild to the point where they maxed out their budget by throwing spaghetti at the wall with FA. It was incompetence at rebuilding. This rebuild has already seen the Reds net talent worlds better than the last while having the beginning makings of a young core already graduated to the MLB level. And going in 24, the payroll will be a blank slate. Anyone with enough foresight to stop complaining about the immediate sees a ton of top notch talent coming, talent already in the MLB progressing and a huge chunk of payroll that can be added. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and if 2020 and 2021 taught us anything it’s that the Reds can’t spend their way to the top like some of the larger markets can. At least not in a sustainable fashion.

Except, they can, they just choose not to.

That's what you refuse to accept, and I understand why, it's because as a fan you don't want the ownership of the team you root for be cheap idiots, but unfortunately that's what we have.

The last time the Reds advanced in the playoffs, the O.J. Simpson trial was going on and fax machines were a novelty.

    Think about it

I think we are on the same page, but I think it’s worth clarifying.

I agree with you that the Reds can and should spend more, but they can not spend like the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, etc.. Those teams’ only limitation is the payroll tax. They could easily have a half a billion dollar payroll and still turn a profit.

The Reds have a limit and it’s below the payroll tax ceiling. They just don’t have the revenue the others do. It’s way higher than what they spend now, but it’s below what the true mega markets can spend.

If the so called "payflex" was a real thing, they actually should be able to go with a $300 million payroll for a couple years, with all the money they didn't spend for most of the past 15 years.

They did it. And they did it in spectacular fashion.

Well done, Castellini family. You are truly American classics.
