Votto overhauled his approach because his plate discipline zen master thing he did as a 30 year old didn’t work as a 38 year old. I wouldn’t say he developed some weird habit.

In Barrero’s case, wouldn’t he be developing these same habits in AAA where he was striking out 35%+ of the time and struggling to OPS over .600? Not to downplay the risk, but if he’s playing hurt and struggling, then the risk of bad habits exists anywhere.

I think he'd have less risk down there and a better chance to recover from them simply because the pitching he'd be facing isn't as good, but to your point, I think playing through this at AAA was questionable as well. The last thing he needed was a promotion to the big leagues.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

    Remember them?
They also had Tony Gonzalez too. You could not have 3 black OF in 1959 and offend half the population of a borderline southern city. I know this has been posted in the past but they gave away so much Cuban talent along with exposing Jimmy Wynn to the 1962 expansion draft because of stupid quotas.

They had a glut of OF in the mid 80s too and slowly but surely they weeded them out either through injuries or need for pitching or bad attitudes. Tracy Jones. Kal Daniels. Danny Tartabull too but that was a rule 5 blunder but Danny was not a good OF and they valued some defense. His was sketchy but then so was Karl’s but Kal looked like he would hit like Tony Gwynn with power.

They have a lot of options here. And quit with the over emphasizing of multitasking positions. Let the guys settle on a post and then go from there.

Barrero had three hits yesterday. I don’t take much from one game. Maybe the pitchers just made mistakes against him.

Despite my strong feeling Reds have mishandled this, I’d be gratified to see signs of life in his bat.

Even if Barrero becomes a backup who can play good shortstop and CF, for example, you want every top prospect to contribute. That’s why I’m still on the Senzel bandwagon, even if he’s off track as a starter, maybe his versatility can give them a couple of years as a solid roster player.

Every contributor helps. So it’s good to see Jose, perhaps, regaining confidence as a hitter, looking for improvement going forward.

He is OPSing (with his 3 hit hot streak) .420

Jose should be nowhere close to starting SS for Reds next year. He needs to be in AAA learning how to hit...not playing like dog crap while burning service time at MLB level. This kind of rinse/repeat stuff contributes to why the Reds are bottom 5 MLB franchise for past 20 years.
