According to multiple sources Cubs are adding outfielder Franmil Reyes. Reyes was DFA'd by Cleveland last week. He's owed ~$1.5M rest of this season and arb eligible this winter.

Heard great things about him as a clubhouse guy and prior to this yr he'd put up big power numbers

Does this mean the Cubs have given up on "Frank the Tank?"

They should’ve grabbed Reyes. We’re in dump city at this point, might as well throw any crap available at the wall and see if it sticks.

I know it is hard to believe but the Cubs have priority in the waiver wire. They are worse than the Reds. In fact, somehow, the Reds are currently in 3rd place in the NL Central.

And somehow the Cubs failed to trade their two best trade chips who are on expiring contracts. The Reds are absolutely bad, but they aren’t even the biggest dumpster fire in their division.

Reds called up TJ Zeuch to start Wednesday. Waiver fodder we took from STL.

He’s 27 and was a 1st round pick in 2016. Should be interesting.

Bill Simmons tweeted in anger last night about the Mookie trade after yet another great Mookie game and honestly it might put our bad ones to shame. They really traded away this superstar in his prime for just Jeter Downs, Alex Verdugo and Connor Wong.

Verdugo is a solid but entirely replaceable outfielder who might already be declining his his 2022 is any indication, old friend Jeter Downs' career came undone once he had to face AAA pitching, and Wong is a 26-year-old catcher in AAA.

    What a disaster.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

“We gave up on Jeter Downs and look - he got traded for Mookie Betts!”

    Those were the days.

This can’t be true. I was told many times the past week that any GM can get a good return on a star player.

I can’t believe Verdugo only hit 13 home runs last year in over 600 PA.

That’s almost hard to do these days.

Per Jed Hoyer, the Cubs are planning to release Jason Heyward, who’s on the injured list, from the final year (2023) of his $184 million contract, but will keep him around as an inactive player for the rest of this season because he’s highly respected in the clubhouse

It’s mean to question a guys drive to succeed and of course there have been injuries. But Heyward’s performance in Chicago is eyebrow-raising.

Nick Senzel says if I could stay healthy for a whole season then Verdugo could hold my proverbial beer

Heyward parlayed GMs mid 2010s fascination with the concept of defensive WAR into a lot of money
