134 wRC+ as a 20 year old. 24 or so fWAR heading into his age 26 season.

That’s the HOF track. What the hell happened?

Cubs got 8.9 WAR for that 180 million they spent on Heyward. They signed him at age 26 coming off a near 7 WAR season. His BAbip dropped over 60 points his first year with the Cubs and never returned to .300 after having 4 .308+ BAbip years in his first six seasons. I don't know if it was the shift or teams matching up LHP against him more or what. That deal should've netted the Cubs an easy 30 WAR given Heywards age and past success when it was signed.

Padres lose again, their 5th straight.

I know we have to talk about them given the enormity of the Soto trade but it’s literally been like 6-7 years now of “look out for the Padres superteam” and they still struggle to win more than 81 games. I don’t really wanna hear it anymore until they’re actually making noise in the playoffs.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I said something along these lines in another thread a few days ago. Padres keep “winning” the offseason and deadline but haven’t won diddly doo yet. I do not trust that rotation.

Three playoff appearances and 2 division titles this millennium, never progressing past the Division Series. One of those appearances came during the fluky COVID year.

Sounds about like a certain team that I follow...

Didn't he get hit in the face with a pitch? broke his jaw?

Some guys don't recover from things like that.

The last home grown Padre to be voted onto the AS team was Tony Gwynn

That’s the sort of voodoo they are trying to overcome

I go the other way with this one. It's the media that does they hyping up and the media gets paid to hype things up so I pay it zero attention. My 50+ years of Reds fandom, on the other hand, make me appreciate any organization that tries and I see Prellar and SD as an outfit that tries. You can criticize approach and results but the effort is clearly there so I'll pull for them no problem (not that anyone's rooting matters to the actual outcomes one way or the other).

When I saw the reaction their fanbase had to the Soto trade I thought it must feel to them like we felt when we traded for Jr after the '99 season. We were on cloud nine and I don't dislike any fanbase outside of Chicago/St. Louis metro areas enough to wish that good feeling blowing up in their face on anyone.
