I agree, they should be doing that.

If the Reds are truly in a rebuilding mode and looking to develop their so-called "pipeline" of talent, then why don't they just let Moustakas go. Injuries and old age have robbed him of his talent. The Reds have many others who should be getting Moose's playing time.

They are on the hook for way too much money.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they do that heading into next season, but they need bodies at the MLB level for the rest of this year.

Unless I'm misreading things, they are paying him 18 mil next season.

Yes. They owe him $18 mil next year and a $4 million buyout in 2024.

It comes down to whether they'd rather have the open roster spot or not.

I wish there was an analytic for baseball IQ. Senzy's BBIQ would probably be in the negative.

    !
Reds also have a $4 million option buyout to pay Moose for 2024.

It’s a lot of money. My guess is they keep using Moose and hoping he has a better hitting month at some point. Then try and get some measure of salary relief in a trade. It’s a longshot, but no benefit to cutting him except a roster spot.

I just don't see these penny pinching owners giving that much up.

They have to pay him in any event, whether he stays or goes.
