Kill the tanking incentive entirely. Turn the whole draft into a lottery. It's absolutely nuts that MLB lets this crap continue.

The owl of Minerva flies only at dusk.
yes.. or even better, someone proposed that the team with the BEST record that doesn't make the playoffs gets the #1 pick and it continues to the worst team, then the playoff teams pick.
I agree, baseball still lets teams tank their way to a good team.. in theory.. or at least enough to give fans hope.
A big problem though is, owners like Phil C could care less about where the Reds draft. I mean, the guy did not care enough to keep some relatively young, cheap and talented players around, so why would he care the minor league prospects? The exception might be a kid like Greene, Chapman, or Billy Hamilton that is marketable to the fans. Phil C only cares about minimizing costs and collecting revenue sharing.. he could care less about what the team record is or the prospect list.
But still, I would love to kill the system that rewards tanking with high draft picks. I agree with you on that.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob
