Steer dominated at AA in April and May.

He’s been very good since then at AAA, but not quite dominant.

If Reds think he’d benefit by finishing out the AAA season in Louisville, I have no problem with it.

Looks like a good candidate for a September call up to me.

Looks like 3b is where he's played most in the minors, so why not give India a break at 2b for a while then slide Steer over to third. If nothing else, have Farmer play 2b for a while with Steer at 3b.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I'd be in favor of Steer playing all over the infield. Were I the GM/ development guru, I'd give him an OF glove as well. Seven positions within three DRS of average will earn 600 PAs.

A 2023 infield with Spencer Steer, Tyler Stephenson, Kyle Farmer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Joey Votto, and Jonathan India should compete. They'll need some OF help from free agency, of course.

But that OF (and the beginnings of the starting staff) are at least a foundation.

Put India on the IL and call up Steer. So obvious it won’t happen.

Does he have experience playing 3rd? Does he have the arm for 3rd base?[/QUOTE]
He played 3rd primarily in college and has also played more games at third than anywhere else in the minors.

I definitely think it's time for a call up. This offense needs fresh blood. India and Farmer are banged up. No problem getting him ABs

Hot Take: Spencer Steer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand will end up as league average or better players for their tenures as Reds.

CES is the opposite of what prospect "experts" get all excited about. It's why our own Benihana dislikes him so much. Because Fangraphs rates him so lowly, etc.

He doesn't have a great pedigree, college kid, not overly athletic. I think the Reds have taken a lot of kids recently that are what product experts like. Rece Hinds, Allen, Hendrick, etc.

CES is the opposite of those kids. He just rakes. That is all he does. He hits often and for a lot of power. Meanwhile Hinds, Allen, etc haven't done much of anything in their pro career. But, Hinds can hit a 500 ft homer! Oh, but he has a .200 batting average and strikes out constantly.

CES is a Cardinals type player. I am excited.

I must admit, I was extremely leery at the talent return on the Mahle trade when the trade was announced. But after watching these two guys (Steer and CES) for a few games in our minor leagues, I was greatly impressed. The power is legit, and I just don't see the swing and miss that I see with most of the Reds prospects.

A 25% K rate is high, but manageable.

Especially if the .600+ SLG comes with it.
