Odd thing is that when Aquino came up and had his historic month, there was a lot of talk about how he’d made a specific change in his swing recently. So there was at least one time when he was willing to change.

Has anyone noticed the change in Aquino’s batting stance in tonight’s game. It has apparently escaped Sadak and Larkin. I noticed that Aquino is holding the bat parallel to the ground over his shoulder as the pitcher releases the ball and then brings the bat into an upright position just before he swings. He has always held the bat upright in every game I remember watching him bat.

On Sunday, Aquino made an impact off the bench. He saw a sinker over the middle of the plate and hit a line drive to left field to give the Reds a 10-0 lead.

"I’ve been working so hard at the plate," Aquino said. "It can be hard, especially when you’re not doing good. I’m working really hard, too. I’m so close to getting it."

"My first career grand slam," Aquino said. "Nothing feels better than that."

Aquino recently made a swing change, closing his stance and becoming more balanced. With the new approach, the Reds are hoping he makes more consistent contact.

"He's working hard," Reds manager David Bell said. "He's continuing to make adjustments. You just never know, you never know when it's one at-bat where it all clicks."

Some of these things are changeable. Changing his entire approach to a plate appearance, including his stance is a start. Not guessing would be great. Being more patient isn't much to ask for because any patience at all would be an improvement. He really needs to focus on swinging at pitches only in the strike zone and letting everything else go by. Talk to Joey Votto and get some advice.

So far, in today's game, he only swung at one pitch outside the strike zone in 3 PA's, and only let one pitch in the strikezone go by without swinging at it. So, the work was there today. The results weren't with a hitless day so far. If he did everything what he's done so far today, he'd be a very good hitter.

He's got so many holes in his swing, even if he knows what's coming and it's in the strike zone, I still don't have much confidence that he'd make good contact

That is such an underrated point and one that we lose sight of as soon as a prospect gets on a hot streak. Baseball is about adjustments and how you adapt to those adjustments. If you are constantly moving around in the minors and never stay at one level you never get a chance to have teams scout and adjust to you. Then you get to the majors and teams have next level data in addition to a major league skill sets. Asking a player to learn about their weaknesses and adjust at the major league level for the first time is setting them up for failure. It's a rare group of special talents that can truly be fast tracked to the majors.
