The projected rehab time is six months, so having the procedure now so he can return for the spring makes sense, especially in this lost season.

Says he hurt it in 2015 and was able to play through until this year when the pain reached the point of interrupting sleep and interfering with other normal activities. Plans to be ready for Spring Training.

Yes. Hopefully he will be ready for the opener. If not soon after.

That’s all I need to be convinced he’s gonna come back mashing next season.

I don't see why. Needs to be done, good time to get it done. Gives more hope for next season in that his poor performance recently may have been due to more than age. I wonder how much a factor the injury was in his many recent adjustments in stance and approach.

That's how I choose to look at this. I'm hopeful this is the cause of his struggles this year and he finishes his career with a decent season.

I'm not sure there's anyone really interesting to bring up the rest of the way. Probably say hello to old friend Colin Moran.

Had this injury been known before? I don’t remember it but then I’m old.

Time to call up Steer and give him a look. Best wishes on a speedy recovery to Votto.

    Re: Votto having surgery Fri

Unpopular take probably, but any chance of a retirement settlement/buyout?

He’s owed 32M between the 25M 2023 salary and the 7M 2024 buyout. Any chance he’d take like 20M and not be forced to go through a grueling rehab at age 39 or however old he is?

My guess is that wouldn’t be the way he wants to go out, but I think it could make sense for both sides.

    Re: Votto having surgery Fri

Votto refused to blame the injury on performance. But you know it affected him.
We have several here claiming he is done and needs to be sent out to pasture.
Like usual they have no idea what they are talking about. I bet some and maybe all of his teammates didn't even know.
