What I like is the upside at the bottom of the list.

Bonnin and Roa are both good prospects.
Time was, Ivan Johnson would have been a top 10 guy expected to be a starter as early as next season. (And make no mistake, Johnson has some Brandon Phillips to his game offensively. Defensively, notsomuch.)
Siani and Nelson look like depth pieces who could turn into second-division starters. Both have high floors.
Stoudt and Boyle have ridiculous stuff and could be (if everything goes right) dominant SP. Most likely, both have the stuff to be closers-in-waiting.

That's typically a list of prospects from about four to eleven.

    5. McLain
    6. Steer
    7. Petty
    8. Williamson
    9. CES
    10. Abbott
After that I'd really have to think about it. The system is as stacked as I can remember from AA through rookie ball.

    Mine's close:

    1. De La Cruz
    2. Marte
    3. Collier
    4. Arroyo
    5. McLain
    6. Steer
    7. Encarnacion-Strand
    8. Williamson
    9. Petty
    10. Boyle

I give a lot of credence to playing in (and conquering) AA and above.

I like Boyle's potential more than Abbott. I think Abbott's the better pitcher right now though.
How do we know he's not Mel Torme?

    I do not.

Boyle's pure stuff beats Abbott's location and pitchability fairly convincingly, IMO.

Completely agree. I mentioned it in the other thread but there are guys with great upside that didn't even make the top 30. That's kind of wild to me.

Boyle's stuff is close to Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft if he can harness it.

Baseball America updated their lists too. Be interesting, if anyone has access, to see who they list.

Boyle is the hardest prospect in the system to rank. On one hand you look at the 7+ BB per 9 and think this guy has no clue where the ball is going and is a major project. Then on the other hand you see 14.7 K/9 and a ridiculous 3.4 H/9. I'm still taking a wait and see approach, but I have a hard time seeing him sticking as a SP if the walks don't come down by a decent amount.

I think Boyle's an effecitve clean inning late inning relief arm at worst, at this point. (Assuming health and a modicum of development.)

Abbott is too hittable by half and has had major issues with his own control. He's a control pitcher that doesn't do control all that well. (Or at least that's who he's been in AA.)

Abbott has hit the AA wall hard. IMO keep Boyle as a starter until the Reds feel like they have 5 starters who are more reliable than he could be. Then shift him to pen
