As time has passed, I feel like the disco backlash was one of the more regrettable aspects of the '70s. If nobody tells you to hate it, people generally don't. For instance, thanks to the Wii game Just Dance, my kids love, and I mean LOVE, Kiss' "I Was Made for Lovin' You".

I think I have my 2000s pick(s), if/when the rest of the threads in this series is posted.

Daft Punk’s Discovery came out in 2001, but it is a digital reinvention of the some of the cheesiest (Supertramp, Barry manilow, Vangelis, French eurodisco, British synth pop) music of the 70s and 80s.

Springsteen wasn't popular enough in the 70s for that to be the song or album which is "the most 70s" nor is it of that era. Saying "Born in the USA" is the most 80s song would be more apt- it really defines the Reagan era.(yes I know the song's history, what it is about, that it was Belinda Carlisle's husband who suggested REagan use it at rallies, etc which makes it just even more 80s)

I was raised in the mid-Atlantic, so when Born to Run came out, it was essentially presented as "this is your new god." There was Springsteen blasting around every corner in my youth. If I had to pick a Bruce song for this category, I'm pretty sure it's "Backstreets". Again, the revelations are in the bridge.

Endless juke joints and Valentino drag
    Where dancers scraped the tears
Up off the street dressed down in rags
    Running into the darkness
Some hurt bad some really dying
    At night sometimes it seemed
You could hear the whole damn city crying
Blame it on the lies that killed us
Blame it on the truth that ran us down
You can blame it all on me Terry
It don't matter to me now
When the breakdown hit at midnight
There was nothing left to say
    But I hated him
And I hated you when you went away

Backstreets and She’s the One were driving fast with the top down at night anthems in my day.

Oh and yes I’ve owned three convertibles

Just my opinion, but I think Springsteen’s “Born To Run”, “Darkness on the Edge of Town”, and “The River” arc was his best work.

Yeah, but "Dust" kind of lived up to its name. Just sort of sounds like a pack of guys sitting around feeling sorry for themselves. I would argue "Carry On" is way more iconic at this point. It fully embraces the '70s ethos of trying to power chord your way through your problems. Plus, Gwar covered it:

Great thread. I will throw this in the mix.

ON AND ON – ELVIN BISHOP
SWAYIN’ TO THE MUSIC – JOHNNY RIVERS
