    Bobby Nightengale
    @nightengalejr

Spencer Steer, making his MLB debut tonight, will play “as much as possible,” David Bell said, and all around the field.

Steer played second base, third base, shortstop, right field and first base in Triple-A.

10 pitch Walk for his first AB.... looked solid! Crushed the 9th pitch just foul.

It's extremely early but I liked what I saw from his approach.

Now a homer in his second PA! Nice first day!

Looks like he has a very good plate approach.

    First MLB game…

HR, 2B, 2BB, and scores the winning run.

The bad news is that it’s all downhill for Steer from here on out.

    What a game from Steer.

He looks like a real presence in the box.

Makes next season look a little brighter already.

Steer gets called up to the majors. Hits a home run, scores the winning run. As everyone celebrates, we see a look of horror come over his face and the camera pans out to reveal that we’ve been in Great American Ballpark this whole time and Steer is a member of the Cincinnati Reds.

    Rod Serling steps out.

Re: Trent: Steer told he's "headed to the big leagues"

I was a little leery about the power potential when I saw he was 5-11, but both Steer and Encarnacion-Strand (who is 6-0) seem to generate significant lower-half power.

So maybe those MiLB HR stats (CES has 30) aren't just mirages.

Yeah, me too. Guy just seems like a baller.

Re: Trent: Steer told he's "headed to the big leagues"

I'm hoping his early minor league approach-- wherein he rarely struck out but produced and exhibited great patience-- might meld with the power stroke he's found over the past two seasons to form a guy who's very interesting. (I suspect the power approach is a case of sacrificing a few hits and quite a few Ks for HR, but perhaps he can further refine it-- last night, he seemed to change his approach once he got two strikes. I'd love that to be the case moving forward.)

Regardless, Steer looks like a middling offensive starter, capable of providing above average production from a variety of positions.

That in itself has some monster value.
