I don’t know. Ashes to Ashes and Fashion by Bowie are pretty much what the 80s became.

Watching that day, I felt Bowie's performance of "Heroes" was the song of the day.

The song was meant to be satirical but it fits the 80's very well

Giving Joe Jackson some acknowledgment as well. Very underrated artist

Considered by some in music circles to be the worst rock song of all time. I say, no way. How could any song penned by Bernie Taupin and sang by someone with the pipes of Mickey Thomas be an all-time worst song? It topped the Billboard charts in 1985 and Thomas still closes his shows with everyone singing along to it.

That song is an abomination. Yet its slick production and complete thematic sellout might oddly qualify for it in this category. If someone wants to argue the 1980s were an undigestible ball of processed cheese food, then "We Built This City" would be the song that best encapsulates that.

Back in the 90’s, St. Louis opened a new arena, The Kiel Center (no idea what it is named today). They had a celebratory night for all the construction workers and everyone else who worked on it. I had a connection and was able to attend. Starship was hired to perform, the first band to play there.

They closed with “We Built This City” but changed the lyrics to “We Built The Kiel Center on Rock and Roll”. The construction workers loved it.

It used to be if you had a Kings Island season pass, you could get a Timberwolf ticket for like $5. At the time, my kids were little. So we'd buy tickets, put the kids in the stroller, and go see bands like Jefferson Starship, Dan Fogelberg, REO Speedwagon, Kenny Loggins, a real melange of 80's music. We'd sit in the very back row and pretend we were still hip.

The irony is thick with the song "We Built This City". They complain that corporation, and corporate greed, is ruining rock-n-roll, and yet that song is a prime example of corporate rock. And, yes, it is one of the worst rock songs in history.

Definitely not a great song but certainly not the worst in the annuls of rock history.
