He does, but I also wonder how much of that has to do with lesser competition late in the season, and if it's a little bit of "oh sheet, I better do something..". Didn't someone the other day say that Aquino has been given suggestions this season but that he hasn't been willing to really change things?

None of it has to do with lesser competition. There's no such thing as lesser competition. (If that were the case, then the opposing Pitcher would dominate "the lesser competition" of Aquino and the REDS. Can't have it both ways. There is no such thing as lesser competition later in the season.)
You've missed some of the articles where he goes into detail about the changes he's been working on. You can see the results in each at-bat. It's an entirely different approach, as he says....really, really hard to change. He's thinking so much on making the change it's exhausting him, I'm sure. But, he's not just up there hacking away like he used to. Every pitch he's thinking it through, trying his best to be patient, not guessing on a pitch, but actully trying his best to identify the pitch and gauge whether or not it's going to be in the strikezone or not "before" committing to swing. He's clearly laying off those pitches out of the strike zone and not letting pitches go by him that are in the strike zone without taking a cut. The results are more solid contact hits with the bat and fewer swing-and-misses. Pitch count is also higher. He's developing his hitting IQ.

Just adding Solano, Friedl, Fraley and Steer to the mix next March/April would be a huge upgrade. Hopefully, they can get a deal done with Solano (and Cueto).
