FYI I was thinking “Rock” category - Seven Nation Army certainly has some competition once we open it up to all categories.

I'm not into rap or DMX. But I admit I do love this song. Anytime I'm feeling agitated, "Y'all Gonna Make Me Lose My Mind!"

Most 2000s for me because it really perfectly captures the pretentious twee indie rock of that decade:

Dirty Projectors were part of a really dark, fallow period in indie rock for me. The stuff that was hitting top 10 lists around those 2-3 years were all groups like Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Warpaint, Bat for Lashes…a mix of sun-genres but all very dreary and twee at the same time. I think it cemented my love for 90s alt-rock and less pretentious rock genres like pop-punk, punk, and power pop because I craved those more straight-ahead, melodic, upbeat artists after trying my hardest to enjoy what was peaking in those 2008-2011 years.

Coming from someone born in 1980, I feel like the 00's was the first decade of lost childhoods - taken over by nonstop reality tv, tech, and autotuned pop music....

so as a nod to the anti Britney/Aguilera/Simpson/Backstreet/etc... I nominate this one...

This is pretty good. Sounds like Narcotized Nick Cave with Radiohead as the band.

Jack still owns it with this live version (which really isn’t much different than the original) 15+ years later.

Songs that are the songs of the 2000s in my head:

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps
    Vampire Weekend - Diplomats Son
    MGMT - Kids
Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happyness
The Roots ftg Cody Chestnut - The Seed 2.0
Peter, Bjorn, and John - Young Folks
The Strokes - Last Nite (although I prefer like 5 other songs on that album)
Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around the Block
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

The song that is actually the song of the 2000s:

Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA
What would you say.....ya do here?

I'll go with Crazy in Love for that if we're just going with seismic impact.

Ted Leo’s cover of Since U Been Gone/Maps would be my pick for pop song of the 2000s, if I were plastered and wanted to start something.

That's a good pick, if we're getting into pop I'd also put up "Umbrella" and "Since You Been Gone", which I think are two basically perfect pop songs.

2000-2008 is going to be a really fertile ground for pop culture study. Absolutely brutal period and music/entertainment all felt like some kind of fun house mirror.

    Re: Most 2000s Song

I didn't include this in the 90s thread because of when it was released, but Santana ft. Rob Thomas - Smooth. #1 song of 1999 and first #1 hit of the 2000s. It was played non-stop.

Other big songs, off the top of my head:

    Outkast - Hey Ya
    Coldplay - The Scientist
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
    Beyonce - Crazy in Love
    Lil Jon - Get Low
    Usher - Yeah
    Britney Spears - Toxic
    Lady Gaga - Poker Face
    Modest Mouse - Float On
    Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Daft Punk - One More Time
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
    Kanye West - Gold Digger
    Rihanna - Umbrella
    Johnny Cash - Hurt
50 Cent - In Da Club
    Eminem - Lose Yourself
    MIA - Paper Planes
Linkin Park - In the End
    Taylor Swift - Love Story
System of a Down - Chop Suey
    James Blunt - You're Beautiful
    Avril Lavigne - Complicated
Arise and walk, come through. A world beyond that door is calling out for you. Arise and walk, come through. It's calling out for you.
