both have shown significant weaknesses recently....it took OT for Tennessee to beat a bad USC team and Kanas has looked mediocre since the Duke game. Kansas is currently ranked too high based on their play this season.

I am starting to wonder how good Duke is.

From the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland...

Oregon State almost beat North Carolina.

North Carolina just lost to Iowa State after beating University of Portland by only 8 points.

    University of Portland beat Villanova

    Xavier almost knocked off Duke.

Kansas’ 50 points today were the fewest it has scored since November 18, 2014 against No. 1 Kentucky, when the Jayhawks scored just 40. It’s also their fewest points per possession (0.75 PPP) since that Kentucky game (0.66 PPP), according to @kenpomeroy’s database.

The Volunteers are the Kings of Atlantis after easily defeating the Jayhawks.

    Re: 2022-2023 College Basketball Thread

I did not post anything a couple nights ago when Purdue beat WVU, but since Purdue beat Gonzaga last night....check that, crushed Gonzaga, thought I would share some thoughts. Purdue jumped out to something like 10-0 on WVU and pretty much maintained a 6-12 point lead all night. WVU closed it to 4 a few times, but never could get over the hump. It was a 4 point game with about 5 minutes remaining, then Purdue tacked on some late game points from the free throw line to win by 12. The strange thing was after the game was there was not really anything different I thought WVU should have did outside foul a little less and make a few more shots. I thought the refs were a little too tight with the whistle, but that is basically any WVU basketball game for me on a day that ends in Y. Purdue simply shot higher than their norm from the field, especially from 3.....and it had nothing to do with poor WVU defense.....WVU played solid defense. Actually, our defense and turning them over kept us in the game. WVU, especially with their starting Center kept Edey in check as he did most of his damage from the free throw line.....we had over half the roster in foul trouble throughout the game. Purdue was 24-28 from the free throw line, while WVU was 11-17....and Purdue shot over 47% from 3. The point is that it was just their night, and the game literally had no impact on my overall thoughts on WVU's ability. Basically, if Purdue shoots their norm or like they did against Gonzaga (16-22 from the line and 38.5% from 3), WVU likely wins the game. Also, if WVU played Gonzaga like they have in the tournament against Purdue and Portland State, I think WVU beats Gonzaga.

None of this is to take away from Purdue....they are a really solid team. I think Purdue will beat Duke to win the tournament. Edey will be hard to handle for any team that can not match him down low with a big body to keep him off his spots. Jimmy Bell Jr. (WVU) is 6'10" and 285 lbs....and was able to make Edey uncomfortable.....our smaller backup centers that are more athletic struggled more because once Edey gets to his spot, he is nearly automatic. Edey is good at free throws and is able to pass out of a double team which makes him a problem for most teams. WVU is not a good shooting team, but shot 41.3% from the field and 22.7% from 3.....to compare they shoot over 50% from the field and over 35% from 3 on the season. I think if WVU and Purdue played again, WVU would have a very realistic chance to come out of the other side because they likely would shoot better and Purdue likely would not shoot as high percentages as they did that night.

We shall see how our Hoosiers stack up very shortly. North Carolina at home, Arizona on a neutral floor, and at Kansas.

I expect Gonzaga to get a few more losses before their conference season starts.
