Lodolo leads the team. Interesting that most are in a very particular way:The Reds have a shot at becoming the first team in the modern era of Major League Baseball to hit 100 batters, setting a new record with 99 in 2022 on Tuesday.
Reds rookie starter Nick Lodolo hit three Red Sox batters in Tuesday’s game to break the record set by the Cubs last season. The previous highs were 95 batters hit in 2003 and 94 in 2002, both by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

“Go look at how many strikeouts I’ve had with balls, a couple of inches from the back foot,” Lodolo said after Tuesday’s loss in which he walked three and hit three while striking out seven in five innings. “It is what it is. You can’t do anything about it. I’m still going to keep throwing it.”
Of the 18 batters he’s hit this season, 15 have been right-handed hitters. Of those 15, 13 were hit by the curveball. And of those, all but one were hit on their back leg.
Red Sox center fielder Rob Refsnyder was hit in his back leg in the second inning Tuesday.
“It looks like a strike for so long. It’s a tough pitch,” Refsnyder told reporters after Tuesday’s game. “You don’t want to swing and have it hit you. He has good stuff. But I’m not surprised he’s hit a lot of people because you want to stand in there and wait on it then it’s on you.”
