    It almost seems like sabotage.
You are partially correct. You got the Reds part right, and the Mariners part wrong.

The Mariners won more games last year than they will likely win this season. Seattle would have to win their final 3 contests to match their 2021 record. And, I am not certain who would consider a 90-win team a doormat. Maybe the Dodgers would consider that a bad season.

Some of you act like it's a bad thing to have a prospect's ceiling be below the current level of where Luis Castillo is at.

Green and Lodolo's ceiling are Robbie Ray, not Luis Castillo.

    Upside?

Lodolos ceiling is more like Chris sale

Hunter Greene more like Gerrit Cole

Lots of outcomes lower than that, but all of the tools are there and comes down to development. Ahead of Castillo same age. Trending really well.

Ashcroft I think likely worst of the 3 next year.

Castillo is one of the Top-5 pitchers in MLB. He won't come out behind in any playoff game he pitches in. He may not win it due to a lack of run support, but when he leaves the game, he won't be behind.

That's not Green or Lodolo's makeup. Castillo's always had it. His mechanics had to catch up with his mental makeup. It's the other way around with Lodolo and Green.

Both Lodolo and Green have Ace potential, but they don't have Castillo potential, the very best of the Aces.
I was just casually reading back through this and suddenly I’m walloped aside the head with “Castillo is a Top-5 pitcher.”

    No. No he is not.

I too touted Friedl as someone who needed more AB to show he could produce up here. But he’s still at best a 4th OF / platoon player. Meanwhile unless you’re in both Greene and Lodolo brain or in the clubhouse how anyone can state these two have basically any intangibles to become aces. How the heck would anyone know this. I don’t care when Castillo signed his contract or how he’s pitched this year. His lack of composure while letting innings get away from him during the first 3 months of 2021 cost the team a playoff spot. But now he’s a gamer. He’s 1991 Jack Morris. But Greene and Lodolo are Brian Reith and John Lamb bound. Or maybe Cody Reed?

Greene and Lodolo both have ceilings as high or higher than Castillo. Will they reach that? TBD.

Is this meant as a dig? Because only one of those pitchers has won a Cy Young, and it's not Castillo.

Love Castillo. Hope that the Reds can find an equivalent pitcher, and a similar contract, in 2023 or 2024. At the same time, not unreasonable for the Reds to take premium prospects so that when they do find the next Castillo the rest of the team is not a 99-loss club.

Castillo is one of the five best pitchers in baseball.
