I am all for digressing when it comes to fast food places from the past. Thinking about Fun Meals reminds me of my youth and the Big Red Machine.

Had friend who worked there. His first night the boss gave him a salt shaker and told him to go into the parking lot and kill slugs

There were a lot of slugs

Any Burger Chef's around now? I can remember stopping at one many times in Lynn Garden, Tennessee coming back from visiting my sister in Kingsport. I seem to remember them as being pretty good.

To my knowledge, Hardees bought them all. Or at least they did in my area years ago.

Thanks. I don't think any are around any more. I don't know what happened to that one in Tennessee. I know it was still there in the early 90's as me and my wife stopped there to eat around that time.

According to this article, there is at least one Burger Chef (now named Suzi’s) existing.

I worked at a Burger Chef next to the OSU campus for about a month. Decided I could make more money being a Domino’s pizza driver. Drove a company AMC Gremlin with a Dominos paint job. That was the “delivered in 30 minutes or free” days. Drove like a maniac.

When I was a kid, I was the only one who was on team Burger Chef over McDonald’s. I thought the burgers were better, more options, always coming up with new burgers, new items. But McDonald’s fries is what won everyone else over. Burger Chef fries were good, but never as good as McD’s.

I as devastated when Hardee’s bought them out. The quality sunk to the bottom and my favorite burger chain was ruined.

Disagree about the Burger Chef fries. IMO, they always topped Mikey D’s. They were ALWAYS super crisp. They just needed additional salt. Granted, Mc Donalds fries aren’t what they used to be - like most all of fast food chains, they don’t cook them long enough anymore.

Of course, the works bar set them apart. Even as a youngster, I was never a big fan of what I refer to as ‘kid burgers’ - read: few, if any, toppings. And the Big Chef > Big Mac.

...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I loved Burger Chef! It was my favorite burger place when I was a little kid in the 70's.

I have never heard of Burger Chef. Feel like I’m in an alternate universe right now.
