Re: Castillo traded to the Mariners, Part II

Stood in line at the age of 6 behind Davey Concepcion at a Burger Chef. 1977.
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

About LeatherPants' quote about the Reds not wanting to compete in 2024-25 (article quote)
I'm so glad that the Reds are being called out publicly.. It needs to continue.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Do zero people have Enquirer subscriptions? I can’t find the actual quotes anywhere.

Not going to post the whole thing because it’s behind a paywall but here’s some of it:

Reds General Manager Nick Krall met with Castillo’s agent, Rafa Nieves of Republik Sports, in mid-June for preliminary contract extension talks during a game against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Krall and Nieves had at least two more conversations afterward, including a few days before the trade was completed.
“We had conversations,” Krall said. “We were never close in where we were.”
A big part of the equation for the Reds, of course, is whether a long-term deal with Castillo made sense at this point of their rebuild. The Reds are nearing 100 losses and it’s hard to envision a path to contention next year when the bulk of their prospect base has yet to debut.

I hate windows. Use the door please, like they did at Burger Chef. btw, if you want to get a burger at the South Charleston Suzi's, be sure to go early. They close not long afternoon (I forget the exact time) like they do at breakfast places like Tudors.

But yeah, windows are just an excuse to not spend money most of the time.

My Aunt and Uncle owned the Burger Chef's in Chillicothe and Lancaster. Because of that I got all the toys from the Burger Chef Happy Meal - they pretty much stunk. But they made a decent burger.
    Where we gonna go?

A number of people in that Twitter thread are either being purposefully obtuse so they can express social media outrage, or they're not very bright.

I'm not defending anyone here, but the article is not suggesting that the Reds are not planning on contending for at least the next 5 years. I mean, we'll see if they're actually going to be contending in the next 5 years or not, but that's not what the article is saying or suggesting.

Also, my dad was working as a manager at a Burger Chef in Indianapolis around the time I was born (trying to stay on topic here)

The question I’ve seen asked, that I’d like to see some kind of answer to, is why the Reds talked about an extension at all with Castillo?

In the article Bobby does say the Reds knew what it would take to sign him, and that they spoke to his agent at least three times. It also says that Castillo wanted to stay.
