The trouble is, even bad baseball is better than no baseball. The curtain is about to fall on the 2022 Reds season. Sadly but mercifully.

How dismal has the Reds' 2022 season been? The numbers tell the story

The Cincinnati Reds are forecast to lose 100 games by the website FiveThirtyEight, marking only the second time in 141 seasons that the team would have suffered that many losses.

The Reds, who have lost 21 of their last 30 games, currently are on a six-game losing streak.

They finish the season with three games vs the Chicago Cubs. If they lose all three games, their loss total would be 102 for 2022, eclipsing the team's record of 101 set in 1982 and making this year's squad the worst ever by that measure.

But based on another measure ‒ won/lost percentage ‒ the 2022 season wouldn't be the worst stinker in Reds' history, even if the team lost 102. That distinction would continue to be held by the 1934 Reds, with a winning percentage of .344 due to 99 losses in a season of just 152 games. Put another way, the '34 team nearly lost 2 games of every 3 it played.

In recent years, our home team has been racking up 90-loss seasons at a much faster pace than at any other time in the Reds' history.

The team has had 19 seasons where it lost 90 or more games. But five of those seasons ‒ 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and now 2022 ‒ have been in the last decade.

I thought they lost 100 in 1983 also. I guess I mis-remebered. I do remember watching the 83 series between the Orioles and Phillies at Mr. Gatti's with one of those funky kaleidoscope projection TV's.

At least our TV quality has progressed since the 80's better than the Reds.

Whose daughter is Barrero dating? I have no idea why he is in the lineup - they have plenty of data on him at this point. If Bowie Kuhn can overturn a trade to the Reds in the best interests of baseball and Eddie Gaedel can be banned from playing, can't the commissioner overturn a player being in the lineup on a daily basis? Is there no end to Reds fans being tortured? Is Putin/Xi/Jong un/ISIS/Al Queda in charge of this team at this point?

Don't think I've ever had as much difficulty getting motivated to watch Reds games as these last few weeks. I'm sure I'll still miss them when I no longer have the option. At this point, I hope they finish last with over 100 loses just to hopefully get the top draft pick and begin to turn this train wreck around. Probably need new owners for that last part though.

They were 74-88 in 1983. Not a bad improvement from 82 actually.
