Source tells MLB .com that the Reds and catcher Tucker Barnhart have been in touch about a potential return. Barnhart is still looking for a team where he could be a primary catcher.
This was probably just a nice way for Tucker to tell the Reds he was not interested in coming back here on approximately 1 million salary.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Every major league team just got an additional $30 million to put in their pocket.

That will buy Phil a lot of nifty preppy blazers to wear around town as he insults the residents of said town.

Tigers To Sign Matt Boyd To One-Year Deal

The Tigers and left-hander Matt Boyd are in agreement on a deal to bring him back to Detroit. Boyd will make a $10MM salary with $1MM in performance bonuses available to him. The deal is pending a physical.
That's...a rather large salary for the guy.

Marginal players earn pretty good salaries these days. That’s why teams like the Reds are going to find it pretty difficult to add talent if they’re not willing to pay. We seem to think $6 million a year is a lot of money, but replacement level veterans are earning $6 million a year. The Reds operate like it’s still the early 2000s with what they want to pay players. That’s not going to cut it anymore.

Eflin gets 3/40 from Tampa Bay. The way pitchers are getting paid so far we'll be lucky if the Reds sign a Wade Miley type SP.

Many people on this board continue to misunderstand the cost of free agency. The Reds apparently do as well.

    Elfin's a solid guys-- that's worth $15M or so in today's game.

The owners can absolutely afford it, largely because they're going to charge the paying public whatever they can to get the most money. Value savings on free agency will not result in lower ticker or beer prices.

I'd take that contract for Eflin in a heartbeat.
