Agree. Seems like a Cardinals kind of signing. Go with quality impact players.

Bogaerts would have been my ride or die if I was running the Red Sox.

Great, now Winker gets to hit against us for 19(?) games a year, with the boost he gets in the GAB.
(Obviously the GAB is only 1/2 of the matchups)

Of course injuries to India and Stephenson skew those #s but I don't think the gap is all that great right now
And when Votto and Moose roll off the team, the payroll gap will close too.

Man that seems like a massive overpay for Bogaerts. You shouldn't have to go more than 7 or 8 years tops to sign a 30 year old SS.

With Soto estimate around 20 million that means the Padres will pay $150 million this year for: Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis, Juan Soto, Xander Bogaerts, Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, and Jon Musgrove.

Meanwhile the Reds have 0 LTCs on the books after next year, only team control and arb deals. Baseball is weird.

The Dodgers announced Thursday that they’ve signed free-agent outfielder Jason Heyward to a minor league contract and invited him to Major League Spring Training.

All contracts are going to seem ridiculous because teams have absurd amounts of money to throw around. Plus, they're basically using contract length like deferred payments.

Those NL West California teams are just loading up on talent.

The Rockies and D-backs look like they belong in the NL Central

    From Passan:

Outfielder Brandon Nimmo and the New York Mets are in agreement on an eight-year, $162 million contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. The Mets keep their center fielder and the biggest payroll in baseball only gets bigger.
Reliever David Robertson and the New York Mets are in agreement on a one-year, $10 million contract, a source familiar with the deal tells ESPN.

8/ 162 for a 30 year old Nimmo is crazy but good for him. FWIW he and Senzel have reached 100 games played in a season the same number of times,
