Fickell has always wanted to coach in the big ten. I know UC fans don’t like hearing it but UC was always a stepping stone for him.
What would you say.....ya do here?

I'm pretty sure all of us already know this.

Every job is a stepping stone. It's often a mistake to take that next step, though. We'll see for Fickell.

I've got serious respect for Fickell waiting a year, though. Getting caught up in job hunting last year in the middle of the CFP would have been a serious disservice to that team and program. He gets a PJ Fleck award from me for that.

The CFP was probably the thing that kept him away from the ND job last year.

Will be interested in how big of a contact Whisky gives him. He's a Jimmy Sexton guy, so I'd imagine it's big big money, with most/all of it guaranteed.

If there's a shred of a silver lining in this for UC, it's that it's better to ride the carousel earlier in the season than later as the pickings get slim.

I wouldn't draft him with my first round pick (lol).

Believe it or not I’ve debated that point on here with UC fans who simply would not agree.

The thought among UC fans was that Fickell's raised profile narrowed the list of B1G schools he would consider leaving for, not that he wouldn't want to return to the B1G. The list always included OSU (and maybe still does), but how many other schools were on that list after OSU was an unknown.

Assuming the rumors were true, it’s interesting that Fickell turned down Notre Dame last year but accepted Wisconsin this year.

I mean, his team was in the playoffs. He'd have to be a terrible villain to leave at that point.

Also a lot less pressure in Madison. Also Big Ten West is a very winnable division

As long as ND is attached to the ACC, their schedule is going to be pretty manageable, too. Self inflicted wounds against two terrible teams kept a pretty ordinary ND team from going 10-2.
