Do Any American Sports Leagues Have a Relegation/Promotion System?

In the English soccer system the top teams from each level are promoted to the next level and the bottom teams are relegated down. I think it's a cool system but I can't ever imagine baseball switching over. That evolution would need a 100 year + timeline of events to get to that in my opinion... but maybe possible just because we have a well structured minor league system. Are there any tiered leagues in the US where we do this right now for any sport?

Odds of baseball ever doing this?

    I truly wish they did.

The NBA should have went to that system 25 years ago.

I’m in the middle of Season 2 of Ted Lasso (great show btw) and just learned about this. It seems fair and encourages teams to give their best efforts. That said, the MLB owners seem pretty content making piles of money and keeping things the same. It would take a massive earthquake-type occurrence for things to change. I like the idea though…a lot. I’m just not sure how it could or would be implemented in the MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, etc.

Maybe some infrastucture issues but I know some AAA parks are no joke. I think ownership and $ is the big hurdle... I said 100 years because I think there would just need to be shifts in ownership trends. Such as, if each MLB team's owners started owning rather than having deals with several minor league clubs as a whole (I think they just have deals now but no ownership right?)... well, an owner could possible go from 1 mlb team to 3 mlb teams with their wise roster investments and they could move whichever team they wanted into the big stadium to play. Still 100 years I say, but not as impossible as I thought some time ago when I started thinking about this. Cheers.

The MLB owners would have to vote on it.

The ones that spend, enjoy beating up on the one's that don't. So that's a no from them. The one's that don't spend, enjoy making piles of revenue sharing money while on autopilot. So that's a no from them too.

Nice dream though. But... Greed wins again.
