I’d package all those pitchers called Scott that the Reds had at the same time - Sullivan, Winchester and Williamson - and induct them as one, along with the lawncare guy.

    Johnny Edwards C

Just because he was a big favorite of mine. I was an Edwards fan, but my dad liked Don Pavletich.

Yes Clay Carroll was inducted to the Reds HOF in 1980.

The Reds first teamed up with the Cincinnati Chapter of Commerce in 1958 to promote the inductions, which were voted on by Reds fans.

Nevertheless, no induction took place in 1985, and starting in 1989, the discontinuation of the ceremonies lasted for nine years.

In 1998, Reds executive John Allen revived the inductions and turned over voting to the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Currently, the Hall of Fame section is home to 81 inductees. These inductees include players, managers & executives who were involved in Cincinnati's baseball legacy, which dates back to 1869, the year the original Cincinnati Red Stockings took the field. Inductions take place every other year.

You can find the list of Reds HOF inductees here:

Non-rhetorical question: how many relievers in the history of the Reds had better 5 year peaks than Rob Dibble and John Franco. There’s I’m sure there are several. But, other than Arnoldo’s, I can’t think of any.

Klu's list exactly. Bailey seems to me the most egregious oversight. Second best Reds catcher of my lifetime.

Hardly any modern era starting pitchers. Mostly bullpen guys.

That's because the Reds stopped making pitchers regularly in 1947 after The Deacon left. Gabe Paul liked offense, moved the fences in and started collecting hitters

For reference, by Fangraphs WAR as a Red. Not because this is the best way, but because it was fun to look at

Of the "modern" Reds (e.g. the ones I actually watched), I'd put Reggie, Franco, and Dibble for sure. Dibble may seem odd, but he had a 5 year stretch of utter dominance on the level of Aroldis Chapman. For Reds HOF, I'm thinking mostly in terms of impact on team identity during their tenure. Seems like there ought to be a Nasty Boys rep and it's not going to be Myers or Charlton. You can't talk about the late 80s / early 90s Reds without Dibble.

I could see the case for Graves given that he's the team's all-time saves leader. But that was most a function of time and opportunity, not dominance. Morris and O'Neil are both tempting due to their presence on the '90 WS Champ team, but both only had 1 All-Star caliber season as a Red, so they don't make the cut. Scott Sullivan isn't close, but he easily makes my personal HOF. I don't remember anybody else who filled the particular "long man" niche quite as well or as long as he did in the late 90s.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Re: Suggestions needed (next Reds HOF class)

I'll do my best Lester Bangs from Almost Famous.

"Frank Dwyer? He's a forgotten hurler on a forgotten team from the19th century posing as a Reds HOF pitcher. C'mon, give me Hick Carpenter. He has the the courage to be a LH 3rd baseman and all time team leader in games played at the position and a member of the Reds first championship squad, which makes him a Reds HOF."

Dwyer is an interesting thought, but he's not very famous now is he?

I mean he gets a passing nod from Lee Allen in "The Cincinnati Reds" published in 1948, but otherwise he's a forgotten man on team that was good, but not good enough and more well known in the history of the game for the owner who was conniving and forever attempting to gerrymander the leagues business into a position that the players were sacks of meat chattel.

Better? Chapman is the only obvious missing comparison. But you could put Clay Carroll, Pedro Borbon, Raisel Iglesias, Norm Charlton, Joe Beggs, and probably a few others in the conversation for memorable 5-year stretches holding things down in the pen.

How is Harang not even considered? Or is it assumed he'll go in? 18.2 bWAR for his Reds career and 22+ fWAR.

If you watched the 1995 NLCS, there is no way you can reasonably suggest Reggie Sanders is Reds HoF worthy.

    None.
