Angels Will Be Sold This Offseason for Record Price

Arte Moreno will walk away a very happy man.

Arte Moreno is getting set to sell the Angels this offseason after being in charge for the last 20 seasons. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has already said he expects "robust bidding" for the franchise, as numerous potential buyers have shown interest.

"The Angels’ sale is serious and will happen. Word is, Arte Moreno should receive a record price, above Steve Cohen’s $2.4 billion Mets purchase."

Previous reports have rumored the sale of the team to be north of $3 billion dollars.

That would be quite the impressive turnaround for Moreno, who bought the team for $180 million in 2003.

MLB Club Owners are raking in the big bucks, they're all making money hand over fist.

And for a few (including me) there is less and less parity, salaries are grossly GROSSLY above what any reasonable person would be okay with. How the hell does a professional athlete make 1,000's of times more than a neurosurgeon, doctor, teacher, you know ... people who actually make a difference in the lives of others? America's past-time, at one time it was, is okay with bringing in robo-umpires, armor King Arthur would be proud of? It's upsetting to me.

So wait... because the Angels owner will make 3 Billion bucks on a sale of something he bought for $183.5 million in 2003 the payers are the overpaid ones?

    Okay.

Someone is willing to pay them that. That's the reason they can do it.

    Bob, take the hint.

So, if the Angels are to be traded maybe the Reds can be included as well, as “the club to be named later”?

Why are Player salaries so high?

Because the Owners can easily afford to pay them and still keep getting more weathy themselves.

Some Owners though are so greedy they keep all the money for themselves and cry poor to their fans.
Sadly many of their fans fall for it.

I wouldn't disagree with that at all. Everything is (and has been for decades) getting out of hand. The greed, the inflation, the lack of priorities, we're all to blame.

All I have to do is look at what the Padres are spending (202M this year) just to show me that the small market teams are just profitting and can afford larger payrolls.
San Diego is a bottom 5 market size and maybe the smallest depending on what criteria you want to use.

It's the entertainment business, people have been raking it in in the entertainment business for centuries, sports finally realized that the players are entertainment and they get a bigger cut.

$$$ being big is a feature of the entertainment world, not some new bug created by a moment generated by the calendar landing in the year 2022.

MLB minimum has been a bit above $500k for a while. I think neurosurgeons probably start a bit below $500k/year minimum. Those who go on to start their own clinics, excel to the top of their field will make millions per year. It's not that far off for the most part. The market rates are determined by the market in either case.

Because its a lot easier to become a doctor, teacher, etc than it is being a starting caliber MLB player. Like way easier.

Not all markets are created equal. I doubt that our owners are keeping more money for themselves than the owners of the Dodgers or the Yankees. I think the large payroll team owners are no less greedy than the small market guys

I’ve always wondered why the Angels and White Sox have never really established their brands despite having half of huge markets. It’s like the Dodgers and Cubs got 90% of the prime property and kept it.
