It's been 102 years and he's still not in the HOF. I think this starts the countdown clock. Last year played to HOF induction. Of Jackson gets in, by whatever means, however many years that is, is how long until Rose gets in. I'll be dead so I won't have to see it.

Yes it's awful the kind of person Pete has been OFF the field. Yes, he's a liar. ON the field, though, he never betted against the Reds or any team he played for as far as I know. He didn't use any drugs to help him perform better. Pete was the epitome of working your ass off. He, along with any other player in history who didn't cheat the game, should be voted into the HOF if they are truly eligible. The HOF is for those who deserve to be in based on stats that didn't come with the assistance of anything other than talent and hard work.

It's ridiculous the number of athletes who continue to get admired like Bonds and McGwire and 25% of their colleagues, while Pete, who didn't cheat the game itself, gets lambasted for his baseball efforts. He should be in the HOF. The only thing keeping Dale Murphy out was his timing, as he was winding down his career as the steroid users (probably 25% of the entire league) bumped the overall stats to ridiculous levels that dwarfed the accomplishments of Murphy's numbers. Murphy was the best of his era, but his era got overshadowed by the steroid generation. The Sosa/McGwire homerun watch was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in professional sports. It's like the Brits who won't admit that Shakespeare didn't write all of those plays and sonnets because they'd be too embarrassed for riding this farce for so long (Orson Welles and many like him publicly stated that Shakespeare didn't write anything at all...he couldn't even spell his own name).

    1. He bet on the Reds so much that on the days he didn't bet on them, it's the same as betting against them to the bookies. "Hey, Pete isn't betting on the Reds today, move the line".

    2. He took Amphetamines (Greenies)

    3. He accepted a lifetime ban.

    1. Betting on games is not banned because it helps bookies, betting is banned because it causes distrust that the bettor might be in someway throwing the game and could ruin baseball if it's fans lose trust it's in the up and up. With that in mind, Rose should be banned. Still has nothing to do with HOF though.

    3. Lifetime ban from baseball is fine, there was not rule he wouldn't be allowed in HOF though.

The Hall of Fame, which is its own thing, has ruled that if a player is on the banned list, they are not eligible. So, yes, there's a rule.

That was in your response that Rose signed agreement to ban. If his consent is what you're arguing, the HOF is a totally separate issue as that wasn't the rule when he signed.

I really hope that someday, a Hall-of-Famer gets a job coaching a MLB team after he's inducted and then gets caught gambling on his team. I would love to see the HOF scramble on that one. Point being, Rose is being kept out due to timing. If he'd taken the normal route to managing(moving up through the minors) and didn't gamble or get caught gambling on his own team until after 1991, he'd already be in the HOF and then they wouldn't have made up the Pete Rose rule.

Sounds like your gripe is with the Hall of Fame, not MLB. Perhaps Pete should petition to them.

All indications are that even if he were eligible for the Hall, he'd not be voted in.

I don't get why after all these years fans care if he's in the Hall. I sure don't

Yes, I have no problem with Rose being banned from holding a position in MLB. My issue is with the HOF. But if you read my post on the previous page about how he's better off because of it, you'll see that I think the HOF's stand is ridiculous but I love it because it makes Pete Rose more famous and forever at the forefront every year when it's induction week.

I was there in the front row of Red seats when he broke Ty's record. I loved the heart Pete put into playing. I HATE(D) the lack of any sense of decency he has/had. He should be in the HOF after he's dead. Before then, keep this dufous out of baseball in any capacity.

We'll still be having Pete Rose threads long after he's gone, that's for sure. I wish we would put this discussion to death LOL
