Also, even though Puig claims to not have gambled on baseball, you just can't have players betting during their season. It opens up the possibility of shenanigans and players influencing certain betting lines or prop bets.
Yes, even if they aren’t betting on baseball, you don’t want players in debt to gambling rings for any reason.

To be clear, I love tennis, but that's the height of degeneracy.
Not a big gambler here. But why do you say this? Why is it more of a red flag than other sports?

A few reasons, I could talk about this at length but I'll keep it quick:

    - It's really rare to have a 1vs1 sport where both participants aren't necessarily at their peak (contrast with combat sports.) But you get this in tennis constantly, because of injuries and coming back from injuries, different surfaces, schedule, travel. I actually doubt many tennis players who aren't in the top 50 are literally ever at their peak because they need to play as much as possible which means gigantic amounts of travel. So you then don't have any idea what kind of form someone is in, there's no way to know.

    - Most degen tennis betting is on those kinds of players. I'm not talking about being in Vegas during Wimbledon and betting on the final, that's not degen.

    - I watch a lot of tennis and there are just constantly weird matches where weird things happen. I think to casual just-the-majors tennis fans men's tennis has felt really predictable for a long time with the big 3, but every tournament has a ton of matches that don't involve someone like Rafa. And you can't make money betting on Rafa. Anything else is so much more of a coin flip than just about any sport, with way more invisible information that the punter has no way of knowing.

That's the more inside-baseball stuff. The biggest reason is all the match fixing lol

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Match_fixing_in_tennis

There's a ton of money bet on shockingly low level tennis, I assume all from organized crime and problem gamblers. But then you've also had players in the top-10 do some match fixing, so there's really no telling at any level.

A Russian tennis player was arrested at the 2021 French Open. This is not a sport to gamble on.

I like to bet on the tennis majors, but it's definitely pretty odd the amount of live betting you can do on like challenger matches. Just looked at my app, and I could live bet a doubles match between Shelton/Kovacevic and Chirala/Prashanth right now. Big match! To your point, if you pick a random tennis match and follow it on twitter, the number of people following along due to their betting interest is pretty crazy. It seems to be more a European thing than an American thing, but there's definitely a lot of action out there. Feels a bit like jai alai but slightly more on the level. Slightly.

I liked those red jerseys much better than the ones with the hokey script "Reds" on the front.

It really does look almost like a scene from a Renaissance painting. So much is going on in the background.

I wonder if you could turn this into an oil painting in the Renaissance style with one of the new AI art generators.

Re: Yasiel Puig Gambling while with the Reds

Former MLB player Yasiel Puig is facing a new obstruction of justice charge in connection with his involvement in an illegal sports gambling operation. In November, Puig withdrew from an agreement to plead guilty to a felony charge of lying to federal investigators and changed his plea to not guilty.
In a motion for discovery filed Friday, Puig’s counsel said they “have raised the issue of selective prosecution with the government on multiple occasions” and are seeking “discovery relevant to show that similarly situated individuals of a different race and cultural background than Puig were not prosecuted.”

The motion continues: “The discovery to date has made clear that biases — whether explicit or implicit — affected the government’s view of the credibility of Puig and other Black men in the investigation. The evidence shows that the government was inclined to view Black men as untruthful and uncooperative and non-Black men as truthful and cooperative, despite evidence to the contrary, and when non-Black men made false statements, they were given the opportunity to correct or rehabilitate those statements, and were not charged.
