Sportscasts more and more are getting a gambling flavor. Odds, point margins, and that kind of stuff.

It pays the bills but I’d rather hear stats than odds.

Gambling is why at least 80% of the viewers are tuned in to pretty much any sporting event. They may go over the top with it now, but ignoring the gambling aspects used to be equally silly.

I get that. Just not my cup of tea.

I am slightly uneasy with gambling getting so integrated with the game. Seems a target rich environment for monkey business. But I’m not MLB’s target market any more.

    For sure.

You even get the occasional “bet and get paid in crypto” ad mixed in there too. Pretty soon they’re going to let Nigerian princes start advertising during games.

Man that 2019 roster was wild. Puig pulling his best Pete Rose impression, Amir Garrett trying to fight everyone, Trevor Bauer doing whatever Trevor Bauer does off the field, Derek Dietrich constantly doing curls in the dugout, Joey Votto drinking his fancy coffee, and maybe the most innocent personality ever in Scooter Gennett along for the ride. That clubhouse had to be wild.

It wasn't a great team, but it was an entertaining one.

But then they went out and added a ton to it. A full 2020 season would have been lit for the Reds, but alas.

I totally agree with you about the monkey business potential. I won't be a bit surprised for one of these leagues to take a big fall because of gambling.

lol tennis is such a red flag

If someone you love is betting tennis get them help immediately.

To be clear, I love tennis, but that's the height of degeneracy.

Betting is unbelievably destructive. Unlike smoking cigarettes (which though it’s terrible is still mostly a self.-inflicted danger), gambling destroys families, kids’ futures, marriages, and is often a trigger for suicide. I don’t know how to legislate it—legislating away liquor didn’t work so well, for example—but I’d think some kind of reining in of the industry should be possible.

Since Pete Rose is making the first bet at the new HRC sportsbook... maybe Puig can be the first one to laid down some coin at Miami Valley Gaming when they open theirs?

Gambling is fine, but the crazy marketing for it is what needs to go. I think people know at this point anyhow.

Also, even though Puig claims to not have gambled on baseball, you just can't have players betting during their season. It opens up the possibility of shenanigans and players influencing certain betting lines or prop bets.
