Some team will take a flyer on Vodnik on the Braves. Was at AAA throws 95-100. He's stashable in the bullpen and worth the pick.

Being as catching poor as the Reds seem to be, I am I intrigued by Blake Sabol of the Pirates. Despite not hitting well in the AFL, he hit in the upper minors. Yea he would have to be on the 26 man, but he solves back up catcher. Could be a sneaky good pick.

Josh Breaux could be worth a look as an advanced catcher with pop in his bat. Not much OBP. Anyone know how he is defensively?

    Re: Upcoming Rule 5 Draft:

I'll second both catcher choices. I'd probably wait until the second round for that one, though, in favor of Victor Vodnik from Atlanta, Erik Miller from Philadelphia, or Carlos Duran from the Dodgers. All three have live arms and little idea of where the ball will end up, but could be interesting in one-inning stints with clean bases.

Not good. He’s a DH at the big league level, hr or k too.

Valenzuela is probably the best catcher on that list but is probably still two years away.

Hopefully Reds don’t back up Stephenson with a Rule 5 guy.

I am not as big on reunions as the average Redszoner but I would be happy for the Reds to bring in Curt Casali to be the backup.

Where the Reds are, I’m grabbing Jose Ramos from the Dodgers just to see what happens.

Yeah after Vodnik he was the guy who most caught my eye. You'd be throwing him in the deep end but if he doesn't drown you could have something.

I find Kameron Misner intriguing. 2019 first rounder who apparently divides scouts as there are those who don't like his swing. But he's been reasonably productive with said swing and is apparently an impressive athlete in the outfield. Could be worth a look.

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

We only have to roster him for a year right?

Thankfully next year's looking pretty bleak.

Yep. Sabol and a RP are worth a look.

So are the Reds. He is absolutely the kind of pick I would want. And now that there are shorter injury times and 26-man rosters, having a third catcher could make sense for a team that should be strategic about Tyler Stephenson's potential.

Except Sabol is another minor league catcher who is unlikely to be a catcher in the bigs, probably a LF'er or a DH.

If you want the Reds to boot someone off the current roster to make a place for a catcher, shouldn't it be someone who will actually be a catcher?
