    Next seasons roster and payroll

2023 Roster: $80,105,000, if my math is correct. This includes the Griffey Jr deferred money and Moustakas’s salary. I think he will be gone by opening day.

Looks like we have about 40M to spend. Our opening day payroll last season was 110-120 M. We need a Starting Pitcher, Outfielder and a backup catcher. Would really like to use some of this money to extend a couple of our young players.

    1B- LH, Joey Votto, 25M
    2B- RH, Jonathan India, 720K
    SS- RH, Jose Barrero, 720K
    3B. RH Spencer Steer. 720K
    C- RH Tyler Stephenson, 720K
    C-
    RF-
CF- RH Nick Senzel, 2.2N (est)
    LF-LH Jake Fraley. 720K

Utility- RH Kevin Newman 2.8M (est)
    Utility- SH Alejo Lopez 720K
    Utility- LH TJ Friedl. 720K
    Utility- RH Nic Solac 720K

    SP- Greene, 720K
    SP- Lodolo, 720K
    SP- Ashcraft, 720K
    SP-
SP- Dunn 1.1M (est) or Overton, 720K or Lewis Cessa 2.6M (est)

If Dunn or Cessa don’t get the starting spot, I think they move to the bullpen. If Overton don’t get it, I think he goes to Louisville to keep him stretched out.

    RP- Tejay Antone, 800K (est)
    RP- Lucas Simms, 1.3M (est)
    RP- Alexis Diaz, 720K
    RP- Tony Santillan, 720K
    RP- Reiver SanMartin, 720K
    RP-Ian Gibaut, 720K (0 options)
    RP-Buck Farmer 1.725M
    RP- Cessa or Dunn

    Others on the roster:

    Vlad Gutierrez (IL) 720K
    Joel Khunel. 720K
    Fernando Cruz. 720K
    Ricky Karcher. 720K
    Casey Legumina 720K
    Lyon Richardson 720K
    Levi Stoudt. 720K
    Brandon Williamson
    Stuart Fairchild. 720K
    Matt Reynolds 720K (0 options)
    Elly De La Cruz. 720K
    Noelvi Marte 720K
    Mike Siani. 720K

Moustakis owed 18M plus 4M buyout. I think we cut him during Spring Training of maybe earlier

Griffey Jr. owed 3.6M in 2023 and 2024. Yea, I know this don’t count towards the payroll but every time I post something like this, people bring up JR.

I said they would have it available. Who knows if they spend it.

The only reason for the trades, Farmer for Legumina and Moreta for Newman, was to save an estimated $2.4M (as opposed to improving the team). That does not speak well for further spending to improve the team.

The reason for the Farmer trade was that he wasn’t worth 6 million. Newman is also a better defender and can play SS if needed a lot better than Farmer. Newman was better than Farmer last season and is projected to make 3 million less.

Newman hasn't graded out as a better defender.

And I don't give two craps about ownerships' millions.

    Screw 'em.

Pay for a real team or sell them to someone who will.

    Oh they'll spend it.

What's 40 million divided by the number of Reds owners?

Farmer wasn’t worth $6 million in Reds’ world. He was worth $6 million in Twins world. He is apparently worth that much in arbitration world, since that is the estimate.

I wouldn’t count on much spending by the Reds this off-season. Maybe yes for stop gaps or players coming back from injury or bad seasons.

There is an error in your numbers. Guys on the 40 but not on 26 do not count on the payroll they also get paid minor league pay. This makes it closer to 70 committed to mlb club.

Yes 40 million of additional spend would have the Reds spend as much as last year but are they going to spend it. I see them spending like they did last year by getting guys like Minor Strickland Solano Drury Moran.

Twenty-eight cents, which is also part of the problem.

THIS all day every day. Unfortunately I think our only hope is the latter.

Could have signed Jose Iglesias for basically the same as Newman and he is a far better defender and hitter.

Iglesias had a 90 OPS+, Newman 94. Newman was the better hitter last year.
