The club signs an athletic switch-hitting outfielder with power and speed who can play all three OF spots. Fred Valentine was the QB at Tennessee A&I (now Tennessee State) in the 50's, and was later signed by the Orioles. He had his best season in 1966 with the Senators, when he hit .276 with 16 HR's, 59 RBI's, and 22 SB's. Valentine will be optioned to AAA, where he will join Jeremy Giambi, David Green, and Gerald Williams in providing quality OF depth. To make room for Valentine on the 40-man roster, the club designates OF Don Dillard for assignment. In a separate transaction, the club announces that RHP Tommy Boggs has cleared waivers and accepted outright assignment to the minors.
