He again lead the AL in ERA in 1966 with a career best 1.98. By 1971 he was about done, and his stats were almost certainly helped by having the White Sox's ballpark (Comiskey?) as his home field, but for a few seasons he was very good. RIP.
I remember having his baseball card and seeing his name on AL pitching leader boards. But I don’t think I ever saw him pitch.

Thinking back, it was hard to see other teams play and especially AL teams in the mid-60’s. Even televising Reds games were few and far between. I think ABC had its game of the week. But besides the World Series, that was it. With only 3 channels available, there just wasn’t the room or the demand for it. Hard to believe in this modern age where just about every MLB game is available on cable and/or internet.

Peters name always stood out for me for some reason. Maybe it was because he was ROY the year I was born? He put up some good numbers for a few seasons and seemed to be a mainstay on the White Sox staff. Although in this card, from my favorite Topps year, he is a Red Sock. RIP to another cardboard hero, Gary Peters.

Re: Some Obituaries of Recently Deceased Major Leaguers Part Three

The 2023 club signs a two-time All-Star left-handed pitcher and 1963 AL Rookie of the Year.

    Transactions:
    Signed LHP Gary Peters.

    Roster:
    LHP Gary Peters
    LHP Carl Duser
    RHP Bill Campbell
    1B Nate Colbert
    1B Bill Davis
    3B Sal Bando
    SS Bert Peņa
    OF/3B/1B Frank J. Thomas
    OF Ted Savage
    OF Lee Tinsley

The club signs a two-time All-Star LHP who figures to be a mainstay in the rotation. Gary Peters led the AL with 20 wins in 1964, and he was a two-time ERA champ. He had an ERA of 2.50 or lower four times in his career. He also had over 200 K's twice. Peters was also an excellent hitter for a pitcher, sporting a .222 career batting average and hitting 19 HR's while playing most of his career in cavernous Comiskey Park.

Peters was a former White Sox teammate of four players on the 2022 All-Deceased Team -- 3B Pete Ward, RHP Joel Horlen, RHP Bob Locker, and recently-acquired RHP Ray Herbert. He was also a White Sox teammate of LHP Juan Pizarro from the 2021 All-Deceased Team.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

I assume these late 2022 additions will not make the heavanly playoff roster.

A ruling will have to be made on that, but that seems like the most reasonable course of action.
