Its the Holiday Season..."the Most Christmasy Song of ever"

The 70s and 80s threads inspired me, and its now that time of the year for Christmas music. Love or hate it, its impossible to avoid it this time of the year. But there are 2 very distinct categories of Christmas Songs.. Inspired by the 70s and 80s threads the Song that you immediately think of when you here the phrase Christmas song (ie the classic) and the song that is at the top of your Christmas song playlist. For fun, we shall add a 3rd category, what is the worst Christmas song that you regularly hear.

Every discussion about Christmas music must start with Andy Williams

This is the one song, that when I hear it, I know it’s Christmas time

I'm sure I'll get all kinds of boos and hisses for this one, but this is by far the greatest Christmas song of all time and you'll never change my mind!

Bing Crosby equals Christmas to me. So just about any Christmas song he sings is good with me.

This is the correct take. Darlene Love is runner-up (Baby Please Come Home & Marshmallow World), and Last Christmas rounds out #3 (I like Carly Rae Jepsen's cover.)

Those are 2 of my favorites above. I like the Christmas Wrapping song as well but it was already mentioned above.

I equate Christmas with the song White Christmas, so I guess that's my answer, but O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas song. I also like All I Want For Christmas Is You.

The 2 worst, by far, IMO. The Little Drummer Boy and the 12 Days of Christmas. They both drone on for what seems like an eternity.

"The Christmas Song" (commonly subtitled "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" or, as it was originally subtitled, "Merry Christmas to You") is a classic Christmas song written in 1944 by musician, composer, and vocalist Mel Tormé and Bob Wells. According to Tormé, the song was written during a blistering hot summer. In an effort to "stay cool by thinking cool," the most-performed (according to BMI) Christmas song was born. The Nat King Cole Trio first recorded the song early in 1946. At Cole's behest — and over the objections of his label, Capitol Records — a second recording was made the same year utilizing a small string section, this version becoming a massive hit on both the pop and R&B charts. Cole again recorded the song in 1953, using the same arrangement with a full orchestra arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle, and once more in 1961, in a stereophonic version with orchestra conducted by Ralph Carmichael. Nat King Cole's 1961 version is generally regarded as definitive, and in 2004 was the most loved seasonal song with women aged 30--49, while Cole's original 1946 recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1974.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some
Mistletoe help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies
    On his sleigh
    And every mother's
Child is gonna spy to see if
Reindeer really know how to fly

    And so, I'm offering this
    Simple phrase to kids from
    One to ninety-two
Altho' it's been said many times
    Many ways
    "Merry Christmas to you"

    Music:

    SONG The Christmas Song
    ARTIST The Whispers
    ALBUM Happy Holidays to You
    WRITERS Mel Tormé

This was the version I used to play from my 1979 album.

I enjoy most Christmas music but some of it gets so overplayed, I tend to gravitate to songs that aren't played so much. With that in mind, here's one I really like:

    Classic:
Seems like a strange choice for someone who grew up in the extreme country, but that's the thing: this song reminds me of going into town Christmas shopping and seeing all the lights.

Favorite: Incredibly depressing. What more could you want?

Worst: I'm sorry; I know this was somebody's favorite, but to me, the words don't even make sense.

The end approaches, but the apocalypse is long lived.
