The only person Matheu Nelson is replacing is Chris Okey.

I'll never understand the Reds' penchant for drafting no-hit, big-power college catchers so early in the draft.

It's like there's a glitch in their software.

College team leaders who do well as college catchers. That’s the bet, I think.

If I had it guess, it's because catchers have to come from somewhere. There's only so many obvious first round catchers, and when you do hit on one outside the first round you provide a huge amount of value.

I mean I added Nelson 100% on his comp round pedigree and the fact that he's a catcher. I think that alone means he's going to be a future major leaguer in at least some tiny capacity. The aforementioned Chris Okey played in 7 big league games last year and he was Chris Okey. And any development whatsoever on his part means Nelson's going to have a multi year career as a major leaguer.

I may be more interested in Nelson than most of you, though I don't have him in my top 25. I think he's a whole lot more interesting than Okey ever was. This year it looks to me like he may have gotten really tired around July 4 and he really suffered till the middle of Aug. Then he recovered and hit the ball very well, about a .333 clip, over the last 15 games or so. I think he bears watching this year.

I like Daniel Vellojin and Hayden Jones more than Nelson. Don’t know what to think about the 2 new guys yet.

I went Javi Rivera who I really like. I also considered Christian Roa, Julian Aguiar and Carlos Jorge.
