At what point is this considered fixing games?

The owners are old hands at this. Anyone remember the three times they colluded to hold salaries down? They were literally being the Reds and not spending any money to improve their teams at all.

I don't know if they've done that, although I wouldn't put it past them. But if you think there wasn't funny business in that first Field of Dreams game, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

A guy could make quite a profit by hedging over/under bets, if he knew ahead of time which games were using juiced/dead balls.

This message has been brought to you by Miami Valley Gaming.

I don't see anything in the article that speaks to the actual weight of the three versions.
Yes, but I imagine those rules were written a long time ago, when the manufacturing process was harder to control.
MLB deliberately manipulated which balls which games got.
So even if they were technically following the rules (Which they control).. It doesn't make it the right thing to do.
The powers that be decided that instant replay (a modern invention) would enhance the game.. I'm guessing there was nothing in the rulebook about instant replay 20 years ago.

Summary: no excuse to have 3 different balls with three different "makes" that clearly impact the outcome of the game and the stats of the players, even if it does not break their own rules.
This was another shady thing by MLB.

SF Giants' Austin Slater says MLB threatened jobs over collecting baseballs for analysis

Giants outfielder Austin Slater says that Major League Baseball actively discouraged him from sending baseballs for testing to see if the league was still using balls of different weights. The warning included a reminder that MLB could fire anyone who was found giving out baseballs to nonaffiliated organizations, Slater said.

Seems typical of MLB owners.. bully anyone that does not fall in line. How dare you question "the gods" that run the game?
This is like when the Reds owner (either Bob or Carl, I forget which one), tried to get Hal McCoy fired.
MLB wants to manipulate the game and how dare anyone question them on it.

How much of a difference does 1/4 ounce or 1/4 inch make? I honestly have no idea if that's enough to cause a major change or if it's virtually nothing.

That was definitely Bob who actually did get Hal fired but only relented after Hal kissed the ring.

The Castellini’s are truly awful people. Just terrible.

Come on. How could people connected with bringing fruit to the U.S. ever be connected with anything terrible?
