I am going to disagree here. If we had an ownership committed to winning, commited to about 150 million payroll every year (adjusted every year for inflation), AND got a smart GM like Walt Jocketty we could be a perennial playoff team. Might not win the world series, but we'd make the expanded playoffs nearly every year. There's no reason why this team can't be at least as successful as Milwaukee.
The Cardinals and Brewers make the playoffs almost every year because usually, no one else in the central division is trying.
Now next year, I believe they go back to balanced schedules, so it's a little bit harder (you can't just beat up on the tankers in NL Central)

Now if your point is that the Reds GM, player development, scouting, etc is so bad that even a new owner wouldn't matter, I see your point and agree.. all that stuff would have to be replaced too.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob
