Groundhog Day. They were saying that last year too. They were also saying last year "If we had our RB Dobbins we would have won some of those games!" LOL

Two years in a row Mr Dobbins your franchise QB has gotten injured. He had a bad '21 season due to injuries, and this season he missed the last six weeks (including post-season). This is not a blueprint for landing a huge contract w/ large amount of guaranteed monies. IMO, there's some issues going on between Jackson and Raven management when the guy continues to be absent from the sidelines, and didn't even travel with his team to the WC game.

The guy has extreme talent. But what good is it if you're a high injury risk and you can't keep that talent on the field? Especially when it counts the most! It's a lonnng NFL season.

Hey, if we had our offensive line healthy we would have beaten you straight up with Lamar.
The state of their offensive line concerns me moving forward.

    From Hobson today...

"(Carman) has been working at tackle over the course of the season. Frank does a good job of repping all of those guys trying to get them all ready," Taylor said. "You can never predict which side you're going to be on and that's just part of life being a backup offensive lineman. And so he's done a good job of embracing that and being ready for his opportunity.

"I thought he did a nice job. Especially being thrust into there. He's got to practice both sides during the week. He's practiced a lot of guard this year as well. So I thought given the opportunity he had against a tough defensive line, I thought he handled it really well." Right guard Max Scharping started for Cappa and made his third playoff start after playing just 23 snaps this season. Despite the shuffling, Taylor likes the experience of his potential new starters. Adeniji started all four postseason games last year and Carman rotated with him in the AFC title game.

"That's really no different than game to game in terms of matchups and who is across from us. You don't feel any different about it because that's something you're always taking into account," Taylor said. "Anytime we're calling a play on a hash or preparing for a guy that's an interior guy or an exterior guy, we always try to factor that into to give our guys the best opportunity. "And finding help where we can when it makes sense sometimes it's more beneficial to get four to five guys out on the route instead of helping. That's part of what we got to deal with starting today and formulating those plans."

Re: 2022 Cincinnati Bengals Part V: Survive and Advance

The Bengals need to call a good Offensive Game and adjust extremely well from play to play and series to series, especially in the 1st Half. They can't wait and put themselves down by double-digits before they start throwing on 1st Down or start being aggressive in the middle of the field. Zac needs to avoid his conservative play-calling that leads to early three-and-outs.

A huge key will be trying to maintain positive field position for the entire game. On Offense, this means getting to at least the 40 of Cincinnati before punting the ball every single series. Three-and-outs will be disastrous as it will give away field position that's hard to get back. Even getting only one first down is disastrous, too, as it not only doesn't give the Defense a rest, just as three-and-outs don't, but one first down generally won't get you past the 40-yard line on your side and you are then giving up good field position to Buffalo to begin their drive, where they only need one or no first downs to maintain that field position.

Asking three new O-Linemen plus a Rookie O-Linemen to go the length of the field on a 10-plus play drive without committing a false start, hands to the face or holding penalty is asking way too much. It's not going to happen. Cincinnati will not put together 10+ play drives vs Buffalo on Sunday. One of the Linemen not named Karras will make a negative play that puts the Bengals behind-the-chains, as they say, and this O-Line can't give Burrow enough time in the pocket to overcome playing from behind-the-chains.

The Bengals got basically an entire game to practice with these inexperienced, or poorly-experienced O-Linemen. That will help tremendously going into Sunday and with practice this week it might be enough to get us through to a victory in a 26-23 McPherson Special. That, in turn, will give these players another entire game of experience and another week of practice to try to get ready for the Battle of K.C./CIN IV and a rematch of the same AFC Championship Game at the same place as last year's Championship.

We all said it at the time that picking up Max Sharping was a great move. Had no idea how great it would be until now.

Regarding Marvin, I think you have to separate two big things, his arrival and his coaching. Personally, I’m very thankful for him starting to turn the franchise around. Without him, who knows where the Bengals would be today. While he was limited in what he could do internally, he started the change towards being a halfway decent franchise.

That said, he was a terrible coach. His game plans stunk, he had no clock management awareness, his teams almost always got outcoached after halftime, he lost the the majority of prime time and playoff games, his teams lost most games after a bye, he enabled locker room and on the field shenanigans etc. etc. And, that’s not counting his smug disrespect to the fans in his latter years. If he coached in any other city, there’s no chance he would’ve last nearly as long as he did.

Correct. Marvin was very milquetoast as a coach. But then again, the issue with the Bengals was never really the X's and O's and that's why he's such a vital part of this franchise's history. He at least gave this franchise some respect. he was just in the unfortunate position that Mike Brown wasn't ready to be handfed applesauce yet so that the rest of his family could run the team.

It is worth noting that the "kids" wanted Marvin. Mike Brown went along with it. They were also considering Tom Coughlin at that time. It was MB who held onto Marvin for far too long. He's loyal to a fault

Mike Brown is one of the nicest Owners in the NFL. He is very loyal. Tim Sullivan would get an annual Christmas Dinner invitation to the Brown's and he said that Mike Brown was a really, really nice person.

Lewis completely wasted the career of Carson Palmer, another person Bengals fans close to the situation wrongly analyzed, thanks to the incompetency of Marvin Lewis.

Taylor putting the day to day tag on Cappa is interesting...

Remember Cappa is a guy who attempted to play through a broken leg with Tampa.

Unless I heard wrong, he called both Williams and Cappa week to week, which he typically uses when that player is likely to be out at least the next game.

Yep Morrision reported week to week but still too early to tell for Sunday...

Cappa is tough though he may try to play, though the Bengals have been pretty good about protecting their players under Taylor.

Agreed on Cappa's toughness. In Morrison's piece, Zac relayed the exercise he saw Cappa doing, and I happen to be married to a PT, so I asked her where that'd put his rehab. She laughed and said that's one of the most basic ankle rehab exercises there is, so as important as Cappa is to the Bengals, I'm not holding out much hope of seeing him out there Sunday.

This is ancient history at this point but Coughlin wasn't coming without Mike Brown making major concessions in the front office - i.e. hiring more scouts. So Tom Coughlin wasn't going to be the Bengals coach. Mike Brown wanted Mike Mularkey over Marvin.

Marvin was the John Cooper of Bengals football. He should get a lot of credit for bringing the team into the modern age but couldn't get his team over the top. Like Cooper, a large part of the fanbase will never give him credit, but he should get some for making the job of the next guy much easier.

    1. Marvin Lewis in tears after they upset the Chiefs, sobbing "we couldn't have done it without Mike Brown".

    2. What Marvin Lewis did to Dustin Dow, and the precedent it set for Cincinnati sports "journalism" from that point forward. (Be a yes man or find another job)

Those two things made me lose all respect for him. Marvin Lewis is not a good person.
