Tanking Might Not Be So Bad After all.

Actually teams who tanked did better dollar wise afterwards in winning than the large market teams that had much larger payrolls.

Did you actually read the article? It is dumbest thing I ever seen. They used the Rays, Indians, A's and Brewers because they tied payroll to tanking.
They also used the Astros Cubs and Braves. the Astros and Cubs are the well known ones. But the Reds are not doing what the Astros and Cubs.

The Reds are basically doing what they did 2015-2019

Tanking does more to ruin the integrity of the game than any other single thing that has happened including the Black Sox and Steroids. When such a large number of teams are not playing to win by design, the games on the field are a farce.

If we don't care about integrity, let all the Steroid guys and Gamblers in the Hall of Fame.

Agree. If you don't have enough pride or self-respect to put the best possible team on the field, get the hell out of the game.

Author is playing games with the numbers

Since 2011, three World Series winners – the 2015 Royals, 2017 Astros and 2021 Braves – have emerged from among the game’s 15 lowest paid teams. That’s as many World Series champions as sprang from among each season’s five biggest spenders. The average payroll position of a post-2010 World Series winner? It’s ninth.
OK, so 9 winners did have payrolls in the top 15. If you're a market like Atlanta or Houston, it's fine to tank 'cause when you are a winner, you can afford to pay the players you cultivated through the farm system or whatever. It's far more challenging to pull this off if you're the Royals, Rays or even the Reds.

Until there is a salary floor in baseball, the small market teams will continue to do this in order to create a window to compete.

More like, in order to pocket as much money possible, at the expense of the fan experience.

The pot of gold at the end of this turd rainbow is watching all the players at the end of their rookie contracts sign with other teams, while the Reds begin another "rebuild"

Collusion I, II and III were worse than steroids. At least the PED users were trying to get the maximum out of their ability.
